New Track: Surgery – REL

Hailing from LA, REL delivers a stunningly touching single entitled ‘Surgery’ which focuses on dysmorphia and eating disorders.

Describing her music as EVOCA-POP, the 23-year-old has received praises from major music tasters from her 2015 debut EP, ‘r.e.l’ and has generated over 2.1 million views on YouTube plus over one million streams on Spotify.

‘Surgery’ – an anthem for self-love and acceptance – is the first single from her three side visual album called ‘EVOCAPOP’. The latest offering is the third single on side A

Speaking of her latest project, REL said: “I’ve chosen to make a 3-side album to address each phase of healing as its own story and as part of a bigger story. I developed anorexia at a very young age (7) and struggled with it for many years. Side A tells the story of a first stage of healing – facing the problem, realizing you’ve been hurting yourself. Self compassion is the first step towards peace.”

I said it once and I’m going to say it again – ABSOLUTELY STUNNING – check it out below:

EP Review: Manic Pixie Dreamgirl – Adanna Duru

I’m was very curious by the meaning behind the name of ADANNA DURU‘s latest EP ‘Manic Pixie Girl’. Apparently, she picked up the term whilst studying at University of Carolina and embraced it, as those three words sums her up perfectly – very quirky and weird, but stunning and unique; something that can often be overlooked by others (particularly from a male chauvinist).

Irrespective of the misinterpreted views, she extends a part of herself through this body of work which introduces an idyllic and tranquil alt R&B – piece through title track ‘Manic Pixie Girl’. Still obtaining an air of soulful tones,  ‘One Way Street’ brings on the meatiness to the seven-track set with the dense sub-bass drive, adding an electronic/downtempo vibe. The woofing bass becomes the main feature of following tracks ‘Too Late’, ‘Trip’ and ‘Dreams That Keep You Up At Night’ – a retake of Destiny’s Child hit ‘Bills, Bills, Bills’ – without comprising or drowning out the futuristic/R&B – ish overtones.

The serenity returns with her cover of Daniel Caesar’s single ‘ Death and Taxes’, showcasing a refreshingly atmospheric soundscapes floating throughout the production.

With complexities that runs riot throughout the EP shows that this exciting newcomer from LA boldly wears her ‘Manic Pixie Girl’ badge – and makes no apologies for it. Through this bitter-sweet EP, Adanna encourages others to be themselves.

New Track: Easy For You – Sleeping Lion

Consisting of Nate Flaks and Noah Longworth McGuire, SLEEPING LION unveiled their latest offering, ‘Easy For You’, which follows the release of their 2017 hit, ‘Stop It’ (released via Majestic Casual Records).

SLEEPING LION’s previous releases earned praise from outlets like HillyDilly, Indie Shuffle and The Line of Best Fit, features on Spotify’s Chill Vibes and Electronic Vibes playlists, as well as recent opening slots for acts including Vesperteen, Transviolet and Brasstracks.

‘Easy For You’ is about forward momentum transitioning from remorse to the indignant self-acceptance that marks the conclusion of a break up. In order to shake free of a frustrating split, the duo left Boston to relocate to Los Angeles and returned to a simpler way of songwriting to draw from a previously neglected raw folkiness. Most of their 2016 debut EP, Patient Creature, had been written over Skype, with Flaks in New York and McGuire in Rome. Creating together gave their music a sense of movement that had only been hinted at before. SLEEPING LION is ready for the next chapter and to take the world by storm in 2018...have a listen.

New Track: The Scarlet Letter – Love Ghost

Teenage alt rock band LOVE GHOST makes a second return with their brand new single ‘The Scarlet Letter.’

Their lengthy piece speaks out on behalf of Young Americans who feel labeled or experienced any form of discrimination, accompanied by a combination of the lack-back guitar plucks, drumming and emotive violin.

Since their last appearance with single ‘Friday Afternoon’ back in October, the quartet have been named Music Connection’s Hot 100 Unsigned Bands for 2017 and their performance of ‘Forgive Me’ on Balcony TV is currently the number one voted video of all-time.

They’ve been the opening act for such high-profile bands as Smash Mouth, The Young Dubliners, Buckcherry, Berlin, Ozomatli and The Tubes. Now the guys have recently finished their first album which is geared up for release this spring.

Iron out your Monday and check out ‘The Scarlet Letter.’

New Music Video: So Far Gone – Tim Maiden

TIM MAIDEN returns bringing a brilliant visual to  latest single, ‘So Far Gone’. The track itself has been gaining a buzz on Spotify, with over 50K plays and featured on playlists like Earmilk’s ‘Throughout’ and ‘Fresh Finds’.

The Brooklyn/LA singer puts fans in mind of a James Blake, with a mild soulful R&B, yet indie alternative vibe.

This one’s a real smoothie…check it out.
