FFSYTHO?! Drops Track ‘Keep On’, Featuring Jabru & Alice Russell

Premiering via Lauren Laverne at BBC Radio 6 Music FFSYTHO?! and Jabru is the perfect teaming up of mavericks to capture a uniquely British sensibility.

Hot off performing at this years BBC Introducing stage at Reading & Leeds Festival, she’s the 4’11” proudly gay MC from Northampton who smashed into the grime world in 2019 – winning props from the legend Terror Danjah with others quickly falling in line. She then proved that she could turn her hand to pretty much any rhyme style you choose to name. Jabru is Exeters “producer’s producer” who has a hand in collaborations with everyone from Zed Bias and Joel Culpepper to Optimo and Throne of Blood to Roots Manuva and the Radiophonic Workshop.

Jabru’s remix of FFSYTHO?!’s ‘Ask About Me’ smashed UK radio from Annie Mac and beyond. Now their first full collab, the single ‘Keep On’ – a Just Blaze style hip hop anthem with vocals from the one and only Alice Russell and an underground superstar cast of guest musicians including Space Dimension Controller, Mara Carlyle and the Gentlemen’s Dub Club horn section – is out now on Purple City with a full collaboration EP running the gamut of styles to follow very soon.

Song of the Day: Checkmate – Meggz

MEGZZ‘s single, ‘Checkmate’ is a fun, sassy and empowering R&B pop anthem about moving on from a partner who is playing games in a relationship. The catchy and feel-good track promotes self-empowerment and realising one’s worth.

An independent artist from Northamptonshire, whose genre spans RnB, Pop and Neo-Soul, Megzz uses her talents to empower others, promote self-love and speak out about issues such as mental health. Her debut EP ‘Feel My Love’ (2019) explored these topics and introduced her distinctive sound; gaining support from BBC Introducing and notable magazines/blogs such as AnR Factory and Discover Nü. This support continued with her next single (Tell Me Why, 2020) and throughout the pandemic, where Megzz hosted and performed at virtual gigs to raise money for organisations such as Black Lives Matter, Womankind and Mind UK.

Now her latest single is sure to sure her on the radar…have a listen below…

Song of the Day: Menace – BXKS

Hailing from Northampton via Luton, BXKS is a sonic breath of fresh air in the UK rap scene. Her astonishingly quickfire bars and a slick, sharp assurance alongside genre bending and experimental beats full of dreamy samples are all heard through her single, ‘Menace’ produced by P-rallel.

Speaking on ‘Menace’ BXKS says: “Menace is a story about me. It’s about me being aware of my abilities and doing what needs to be done to accomplish my set goal – “please don’t play me”. It’s also a rhetorical question to the listeners :). The artwork (by cocoa juice) is based on “neon genesis” the anime.”

‘Menace’ forms part of BXKS’ debut mixtape ‘Full Time Daydreamer’ released on Friday, 11th June via Marathon Artists. Including previous singles ‘Packed In’ and ‘Work Like ft. KISH!’ which were widely supported by i-D, Target, Mary Anne Hobbs, Jamz Supernova and Rinse FM (playlisted twice), ‘Full Time Daydreamer’ is an eclectic eight-track “playful playlist” crafted mainly with producers TK and P-rallel, lyrically covering everything from rap brags to being broke, all with a bouncy, deft ease to her delivery, mirroring the fun escapist world BXKS wants the tape to represent.

Here’s your first taste to the mixtape; have a listen to ‘Menace’.

Song of the Day: OK -Izzie Gibbs

One of the most celebrated, new generation artists in grime culture, Northampton’s IZZIE GIBBS releases the 2nd single to be taken from his EP, ‘Yin Yang’.

Izzie comes with straight up, real talking on this trappy number produced by Spookzville. Setting pace from the get go, the emcee demonstrates his lyrical dexterity, making this a monster tune that has already received 150,000 views in its first week online.

Taken off the ‘Yin-Yang’ E.P (out now), ‘OK’ follows up ‘Chillin’ featuring Donae’O, which immediately got snapped up as Rude Kid’s track of the week at Kiss FM and DJ Target’s #RadioActive on Radio 1Xtra, setting IZZIE GIBBS firmly on course for his continued ascent.

Whilst he already has an admirable career behind him that saw him win ‘Best Newcomer’ at the 2016 Urban Music Awards and Stormzy bring him out on stage at Detonate Festival, the unrestrainable talents and determination of this young emcee are proven in his latest peppering of activity across radio and online. 2017 alone has seen him perform alongside Stormzy, Jaykae and Dapz on the Map on the Kiss Grime show, feature on Kamakaze’s Pull Up remix, drop two dope freestyles and has been co-signed by Big Mike aka Stormzy, as one to watch!

Fully aware of the savvy and hungry fans in his command, IZZIE GIBBS is already a master of his craft and holds himself solely responsible for his musical output, which includes the decision-making behind his E.P. ‘Yin-Yang’ features an array of experienced and rising talent including Young T & Bugsey, as well as Dice Recording label mates Tremz and Big Narstie, who he cites as one of his biggest influences on his career so far.

With his idiosyncratic style, overwhelming charisma and his lengthy list of fans and peers, eyes are firmly set on the future of IZZIE GIBBS.
