Premiere: Driver (single) – Gold Complex

NEW LEASE MUSIC is very proud to present Canadian genre bending collective GOLD COMPLEX‘s single titled ‘Driver’, out today on all streaming/download sites.

Since their last appearance on the blog with sultry single ‘Tread On Me’ back in 2016, the ten-piece band from Toronto has been deep in the trenches of the studio for almost three years, creating their piece de resistance. The latest offering features a three-piece horn section with rich soulful harmonies in an exploration of funk, pop and rock. It’s a song about passion, romantic attraction and emotional co-dependency, reminiscent of Red Hot Chili Peppers but with a modern edge and a classic twist.

‘Driver’ is the second release from their highly anticipated debut album, ‘New Soul’ and follows their first single from the album, ‘Fight About Nothing’, a classic soul jam with a compelling music video directed by the band’s lead singer, Will Bowes. Check it out here.

Keep your ears peeled for their next single ‘Homegirl’, dropping on the 1st February and album ‘New Soul’, coming out on 22nd February…but for now, wrap your ears around this delight.

Remember, you heard it first on NEW LEASE MUSIC!

New Music Video: Sight – Gaspar Narby – Sight (ft. D.A.N)

Following on from the release of single ‘Words Of July’ feat. British singer LEES, the London-based Swiss producer GASPER NARBY shares the music video to single ‘Sight’. The Theo Le Sourd-shot production follows two people through the streets of New York, both going through the pain of heartbreak and surrounded by memories of their time together.

‘Sight’ forms part of Narby’s first full body of work, ‘A Stare Makes Two’ EP. Flush with intricate beats, soft melodies, experimental eletronica and complex production, Narby sets down five tracks that explores the various stages and forms of romantic relationships.

EP Review: Insomnia – Be Kreative

NEW LEASE MUSIC regular BE KREATIVE‘s latest EP ‘Insomnia’ predominantly delivers piano-led overtones which works heavenly against the contrasting dense-heavy drive.

Although the above combo provides an instantly likable mainstream vibe, the collection also brings on a flicker of that similar sound of R&B, dreamy boombap and that real gritty lick of urbanised hip-hop, where BE KREATIVE‘s and guest vocalists were consistently confident in delivering a crisp and lucid flow.

‘Insomnia’ makes pleasant listening and is an adequate introduction to Houston rapper. However it would be great for him to really experiment with various genres in order to get ahead of the game. I say this because I KNOW he can do it with ease – and who knows, maybe he has those plans in the pipeline…check him out below…

Must Listens: Onward, Mirage, No Love

Song of the Day: Come For You – Nemi

NEMI steps out of South London’s thriving scene and into the blog’s today hot spot with an anthemic R&B inspired single ‘Come For You’.

The release has already captured the attention of Jamz Supernova, who provides the first play via BBC 1Xtra, and follows on from the genre-defying, Dummy-approved debut single ‘What You Gonna Do’.

As a 21-year old songwriter, whose family are originally from Portugal, NEMI manages to draw from her love of 80s classics, by the likes Kate Bush, Blondie and Madonna, whilst producing a refreshing, contemporary sound.

In spring of 2019, she is set to release the debut EP ‘YOU’ – a 4 track project that melds her unique personal aesthetic with that of her favourite coming of age films, Betty Blue and Stand By Me. The project has been produced in collaboration with Exmoor Emperor, whose previous credits include AMA Lou, Jones, Bellatrix, Tara Carioselli and Tkay Maidza.

NEMI has curated an emboldened pop sound on ‘Come For You’, by seamlessly combining old with new in a way that belongs only to her. Watch her ride through to 2019 on a wave of well-earned hype…but for now, have a listen to NEMI‘s latest offering below…

Brooklyn’s most talked about singer/producer JOHNNY BURGOS stole today’s hot spot with a beautifully dark and deep-rooted modern soul/R&B number titled ‘Figured You Out’, taken from his debut EP, ‘Love Through It All’, out now.
