Song Of the Day: When Will I Learn – Tora

Australian band TORA‘s single ‘When Will I Learn’ – the second cut from their upcoming album, ‘A Force Majeure’ – is laced with melancholic but calm dynamics with dark harmonic undertones, which lyrically examines human self-reflection and self-care amidst trying times.

Speaking on the new release, the band said: “’When Will I Learn’ is about the harsh realities that we all have to face at times in our lives, it’s about going inwards and engaging in self reflection, which becomes the catalyst for rapid growth and expansion, and how sometimes you just need to face problems head on to solve them.”

In early 2020, Byron Bay’s Tora relocated to Amsterdam, set to make the city their base; an anchor around which a full year of European and American touring was to revolve. Soon after their arrival however, the threat of COVID-19 became a very real presence, forcing Tora to cancel their entire tour schedule, but also retreat into a strict new locked-down lifestyle.

Though the opportunity to perform was taken away, the band’s love for creating music remained and so, across the next eight months, Tora’s focus became set on A Force Majeure. The 11-track project follows their richly-textured 2019 album ‘Can’t Buy The Mood’ and their 2017 debut full length ‘Take A Rest’. Over the course of the two albums the band have received support from respected members of the international music community including both Annie Mac (BBC Radio 1) and Sir Elton John (Beats 1), press from The Guardian to Pigeons & Planes, with their catalogue now boasting upward of 150 million streams.

‘When Will I Learn’ is taken from album, ‘A Force Majeure’ slated for release 3rd September. Check out the official video for the single below…

Song of the Day: Begging For The Tide – Lucas DiPasquale

‘Begging For The Tide’ holds a special place in LUCAS DIPASQUALE‘s heart as he produced the soothing R&B/pop joint entirely on his own. The single documents the comparison of a girl that Lucas once liked to a warm wave of ocean water.

Lucas explains further the meaning behind the single: “My dad would take my brothers and me to the beach in the evening when the waves would be really big and we would get decked trying to boogie board into them. The bigger the waves, the better. That experience inspired the entire song – I liked this girl so much that I felt like I was sitting on a beach begging for a wave to come and envelop me. I wanted to see her so bad that I found myself asking the universe to make it happen.

‘Begging For The Tide’ marks a new chapter in Lucas’ music career since parting ways with a major label. Check out the single below…

Jamie Lee Harrison Delivers Powerful Pop Ballad, ‘Say It Out Loud’

Following last summer’s ‘Scars At Night’ collaboration with Swiss producer Nicolas Haelg, which amassed over a million streams on Spotify alone, and on the back of opening for Ronan Keating in concert, British singing sensation JAMIE LEE HARRISON is back with a brand new single titled ‘Say It Out Loud’.

Produced by Lewis Gardiner, who has previously worked with Ellie Goulding, Nick Jonas and Chvrches, among others, and written by Jamie along with Gardiner and Nick Bradley, ‘Say It Out Loud’ is a glorious pop ballad for the ages, which captures Jamie at his very best, with his amazing voice, vibrant lyricism and relatable songwriting taking centre stage.

Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Say It Out Loud’ and how the track came together, Jamie Lee Harrison says, “The song was written in lockdown. All of my writing sessions were cancelled when the world came to a halt, so the songwriting world turned to Zoom and it kinda worked! It’s weird trying to write a song over the internet, but it has become the new norm and allowed me to collaborate with some incredible producers. The song speaks to that bond you have with someone special, when you know what you’re both feeling, but you don’t want to ruin it by saying anything. The production on this track is also a little different for me, which I like”.

Newcastle-born Jamie Lee Harrison is one of the most promising music prospects coming out of the North East, and has grown to become a real staple of the region’s music ecosystem. Having spent years developing his melodic sound and purposeful songwriting, he has steadily grown a tribe of people passionate for the genuine music from the heart that he offers. He captured the nation’s hearts on BGT in 2017, before releasing his first series of singles and collaboration to rave reviews, selling out his nationwide tour, and headlining the prestigious Newcastle Cathedral,
garnering support from CelebMix, Affinity Magazine and The Chronicle, along the way.

Having spent the first half of the year collaborating on new music, with writers and producers that have worked alongside the likes of Ed Sheeran, Ne-Yo and Celine Dion, Jamie Lee Harrison is poised for a breakout summer of 2021, led by his brand new single ‘Say It Out Loud’, which will be followed by a string of further singles and live shows over the summer, leading up to his debut EP, which arrives via Humble Angel Records next year.

Song of the Day: YSB – Nimkish (ft. ASCXNSION)

NIMKISH‘s collaboration with ASCXNSION, ‘YSB’ (Young, Sick, Broke), is about the need for healing, freedom, and to be heard.

The Canadian indie-pop artist explains further of the release: “This song is about feeling like you can’t get ahead, and specific issues that we as Indigenous women work through on a daily basis. Our generation has been left to deal with trauma and we are continually fighting for equity. It can feel exhausting to constantly try to be truly heard.”

Nimkish has made quite an impression on the scene with her 2019 debut album, ‘Heartbreak On The Coast’, which was charted at #1 on the CiTR Discorder Charts within a week of its release.
