Song of the Day: Lucky One – Gena Perala

GENA PERALA rallied some of the finest musicians together for the live recording of her new single ‘Lucky One’.

Recorded at Monarch Studios in Gena’s hometown Vancouver BC, ‘Lucky One’ is a little bit Rock and Roll and a little bit Country with her signature lyrical style: Honest and unapologetic sprinkled with a bit of sass. “I wanted to show all the moving pieces of a song so I brought in a good friend and filmmaker to shoot us while we played the track live off the floor.” Perala explains.

The video captures a fun and playful day in the Studio without any real plan or rehearsal. “I mean I probably should have done a wee bit of planning and rehearsing but hindsight is 20/20 plus I wanted it to be spontaneous. I really wanted to give people an idea of all the instrumentation and players behind a song,” Perala says, explaining the concept of the video.

‘Lucky One’ is part of a side project for Perala right now. She is currently in the process of recording and releasing a down tempo electronic synth album but with so much material the artist feels the need to release music in many forms. “I just need to start getting my music out and I thought this would be a fun way to release a song,” she says.

Song of the Day: He Ain’t Me (Remix) – Ricardo Williams (ft. Lioness)

RICARDO WILLIAMS returns with a big BANG with his second (remix) single ‘He Ain’t Me’, premiered on radio via DJ Ace on BBC 1Xtra.

Produced by Sillkey(Wiley, Jacob Banks, Vanessa White) the remix takes you through a journey of clever wordplay from the opening verse by Lioness through to the catchy and fun summer vibe of the track. This remix proves Ricardo’s versatility and truly displays him as arguably one of the brightest current R&B artists from the UK.

Talking about why he decided to do a remix, Ricardo says “I wanted to show a different side of me but also give people something they can dance to. Not to mention I’ve been a huge fan of Lioness for years and when I heard her DBT remix I knew instantly I had to get her on this track!”

The remix follows ‘He Ain’t Me’ and  Ricardo’s last single ‘Come Over’ which was featured as DJ Ace’s Track of The Week on BBC 1Xtra. He partnered with fellow R&B peers J Warner, Jordan King and Mark Asari for the remix which premiered on BBC 1Xtra. Support was also received from Manny Norte on Capital Xtra, The Beat London, Pulse88 Radio, Reprezent, Westside FM, Ronnie Herel and MiSoul radio.

2018 has already been a big year with the release of new music and various live performances, including supporting Faith Evans on her UK tour (London, Birmingham and Manchester)

Song of the Day: Just Fine – Desiree Dawson

If you’ve experienced any uncertainty filled with a rollercoaster of emotions, you’re not alone as DESIREE DAWSON went through the exact same thing, through in her latest single, ‘Just Fine’.

Canadian singer/songwriter teamed up with producer Cody Taylor to document her turbulent journey in a soothing combo of soulful pop. Delivered in her raspy, jazz/soul vocal instrument, Desiree, despite the turbulence, holds on to the fact there’s calm after the storm and she’ll be just fine.

Song of the Day: You’re Crazy – Jodie Abacus

Described by many as Thundercat meets Stevie Wonder, Future-soul artist  JODIE ABACUS  released an ode to all crazy ex-partners, coming in the shape of single ‘You’re Crazy’, taken from his forthcoming debut LP.

The South-London singer has been causing a stir since the early days of ‘I’ll Be That Friend’ & ‘Good Feeling’, with Abacus winning hearts at BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra – not to mention key tastemaker support from the likes of i-D, Pigeons & Planes and Noisey.

His forthcoming LP was inspired by “the worst, mental, fuck-with-my-head year” which saw the singer break-up with a girlfriend of five years and suffer a near-death experience with pneumonia – Jodie now lives with the attitude that he “must be able to take shit and grow flowers”.

Over the coming months, JODIE ABACUS will deliver additional tracks from the album – with a full LP release date to be announced soon….

Song of the Day: Get You Alone – Conrad The Third

‘Get You Alone’ is the first single from CONRAD THE THIRD‘s forthcoming, debut project, ‘Calm Waters’.

Based on a real life experience, ‘Get You Alone’ –  the first R&B song written by the Canadian singer/songwriter – is about wanting somebody to meet you halfway in a relationship, in order to grow – regardless of whether that meant growing together or apart.

Recorded in one take, ‘Get You Alone’ sets the tone for his upcoming project, which delves deeper into the trials and tribulations of the newcomer’s life and relationships.
