Mychelle Join Forces With Enny For New Single, ‘Forbidden Fruit’

Hackney-born singer, songwriter and guitarist MYCHELLE has unveiled her new track ‘Forbidden Fruit’ featuring ENNY. The latest single from her upcoming EP ‘Someone Who Knows’ which is set for release on 20th May.

Markedly more buoyant and rhythmic than Mychelle’s previous releases, ‘Forbidden Fruit’ is a rootsy yet bass-driven track. Sonically recalling the work of neo-soul songstresses India Arie, Tweet and Vivian Green, the track emits the ambience and mood of a peaceful summer afternoon.

Lyrically, the song details the moral dilemmas that arise when one falls for someone they know isn’t good for them and the complicated feelings that consequently rise to the surface.

Lending guest vocals to the track is fellow FAMM label-mate ENNY who adorns the song with a majestic rap verse. The newest addition in ENNY’s recent string of features, following her freshly-released collaborations with Shae Universe, Odeal and Boj. The resulting collaboration is a perfect marriage of Mychelle’s acoustic soul sensibilities and ENNY’s supreme rap stylings.

Directed by Portia Barnett-Herrin, the video follows Mychelle as she’s strolling through a park late at night where she is curiously enticed by a strange light that leads her to an alternative universe.

Soon she’s face to face with a version of herself she doesn’t recognise, engaging in a high-stake game of chess before completely disappearing. The video’s narrative is further complemented by visually rich collage sequences placing an emphasis on the sensory draw of fruits and flowers.

The new single comes after the release of her previous single, ‘Younger Self’ – the lead single of her forthcoming sophomore EP ‘Someone Who Knows’, which will coincide with her first ever headline show at The Lexington on 31st May.

Song of the Day: Not Very Well – Tuff Bear

UK-based artist TUFF BEAR‘s single, ‘Not Very Well’ which combines ambient synthesised melodies and melancholic vocals that play out over a pulsing, funk-inspired groove, all with the intention of creating a feeling of optimism and joy in the face of a familiar sadness.

The upbeat, disco-charged buoyancy that dominates the song is designed to contradict the more introspective notions of anxiety and worry that are explored in the lyrics, thereby presenting a sort of defiance in the embrace of one’s shyness.

With a sound that draws on 70s disco, 90s dance and contemporary indie-pop, Tuff Bear – an alias for Theo Vernon – developed his sound and aesthetic over the course of the pandemic taking what had been a lifelong hobby. He started playing music from the age of five, learning the tuba, piano and cello before joining a choir – into something of a creative endeavor, writing and recording songs in his student bedroom. Work started on this first instalment of the Tuff Bear project back in April of 2020 before Vernon signed to Acrophase Records and began piecing together the collection with label mate, PWNT.

‘Not Very Well’ follows his bb sway-featuring debut single, “Talk To You” which found fans Stereofox, Dope Cause We Said, Also Cool Mag and more. Tuff Bear’s debut EP, Tuff Bear’s Picnic is set for release via Nashville-based label, Acrophase Records (V.V. Lightbody, PWNT, Ginger Root) on June 3, 2022.

Ricardo Williams Shares His First Release Of The Year, ‘Cross The Line.’

UK artist RICARDO WILLIAMS comes through with his first release of the year, ‘Cross The Line’.

With a more stripped back style Ricardo shows a new side to his R&B sound whilst still maintaining the sound he is known and loved for. ‘Cross The Line’ samples the emotionally charged song by Brandy ‘Borderline’ and uses it as the centrepiece to explore the relationship ‘no no’ of dating a friend. Not only does Ricardo showcase his sultry vocals on this track he also shows that his songwriting skills are a force to be reckoned with.

Ricardo says: “We all know how crazy living through the pandemic and lockdown were. I really took that time to reconnect with myself. Spend some real quality time with my family including welcoming my new baby girl into the world. It’s really given me perspective on life and now I can pour that back into my music. Cross the line is a product of that, me just letting go and creating with this new fire in my belly.”
