Song Of the Day: The In Between – Favourite Daughter

FAVOURITE DAUGHTER‘s latest single, ‘The In Between’, is far cry from her previous wonderfully chaotic offering, ‘Long Distance, which chronicles losing control of your feelings.

Positioned in a guitar-led intimate setting, ‘The In Between’ is about meeting someone you really like and the cocktail of feelings encountered when taking the dating phase to the next stage – the anticipation of happiness, the anxiety of having to stay in the moment, and the fear of being vulnerable with someone new and getting hurt.

Speaking of her single, the Montreal singer-songwriter says: I wrote The In Between a few weeks after meeting my partner. I was adamantly single and had every intention to remain that way, but of course love always finds you when you’re not looking, and I found myself terrified at how quickly I was falling for her. I wanted to strip this song back to its bare essentials and make it feel as intimate as possible, so the listener feels like they’re the only person in the room.

Breana Marin Drops Infectious Track, ‘Work’

Pop/R&B artist BREANA MARIN‘s new single ‘Work,’ tells a moving story of the hardships that relationships go through while deciding if it’s a journey they want to continue.

“It’s about being in a relationship long past the honeymoon stage,” says Marin. “The point we reach where each person’s true colors are revealed, and deciding if you’re going to put the effort in to make it work.”

While the song’s context deals with a weighty emotional subject, it’s juxtaposed with R&B and pop influences mixed with a hint of island vibes to keep the tone light-hearted and fun. The lively melodies and beats paired with her lustrous vocals create a compelling dynamic that ties each element of the song together.

Breana Marin is a connoisseur when it comes to making hooks. Raised on Sade, Michael Jackson, and Prince, she honed her skills as a teen in the backseat of her parent’s car, singing lyrics to songs on the radio – and standing in front of the TV taking note of Michael Jackson videos. At 13, she began writing her own music, but it wasn’t until college where she began to find her stride. She’s taken the internet by storm from licensing hip-hop hooks to indie artists and is one of the top-performing vocalists and songwriters on the Beatstars platform, where her hooks have brought in incredible sales and racked up millions of views on YouTube. Marin is most known for her velvety smooth vocals influenced heavily by Sade and Imogen Heap. The songwriter’s impressive resume includes Fifth Harmony, Keyshia Cole, Phora, Brandy, and Letoya Luckett. Marin’s also had music featured in television shows on various networks like Starz, OWN, and Showtime.

Song of the Day: Difficult – Lisa Conta

LISA CONTA has graced the cover of The Guardian’s Observer and the pages of British Vogue, Elle and Wonderland Magazine. She has mesmerized with her beauty and beyond her image, has remained somewhat of a mystery until now, as she is set to captivate the world with her voice via the release of her debut single.

Entitled ‘Difficult’, the track has the ambiance of grown and sexy R&B whilst being modernised by her enigmatic flair, with the help of producer JA1DA. Heightened by a rumbling bass, Lisa Conta finds her own voice and balances vulnerability with assertiveness as she contemplates the fine line between lust and a relationship. Assured in her ability not to fall in love with potential, the track zooms in on emotional highs and lows and whilst recognizing her desires, Lisa remains self-empowered and unwilling to settle for anything that doesn’t deliver or have depth.

A poetic balance of raw and honest emotion, ‘Difficult’ has an air of melancholy as chilly blues and sultry warmth are wound together in a relatable, remarkable record that sees her take ownership over her part in a relationship. The sincerity of the slow burning R&B track reveals a deep and strong character that exposes chinks of sensitivity and vulnerability – the human behind her image which has been viewed the world over.

Of Swedish-Gambian decent, Lisa resides in London and is signed to leading modelling agency ‘Storm Models’. Whilst initially dreaming of a career in pro-basketball, it has been her calling as a model and singer/songwriter that has determined her course. Surrounded by a musical family that includes her grandfather, ‘The Singing Prince’ of Gambia, and her own father Eddie Conta, it was inevitable that Lisa would too, someday, find her own voice.

Delivering shades of experience, and an exquisite musical palette, Lisa Conta shares her debut single ‘Difficult’ to the world…

Somewon Shares Bitter-Sweet Debut Single, ‘Happy Together.’

Born and raised in Copenhagen, SOMEWON‘s latest single ‘Happy Together’, evolves around the struggle of letting someone go.

The turbulent alternation between the melodically light tones and the glitchy melancholic bass in his latest single could also sum up his upbringing when exploring music. From a childhood in classical choirs to spending his teenage years in the hip-hop community, Somewon – whose real name is Aleksander Demsitz – struggled to find his own identity musically.

After being a backing vocalist for the Danish hip-hop artist Mund De Carlo for several years and releasing a visual hip-hop-soul EP, Somewon has truly found himself in pop music.
