Song of the Day: Paranoid – Kid Tana

Making moves on the underground over the last year, KID TANA has been building an impressive portfolio of music, catching the eye of major UK Rap platforms including Link Up TV and GRM Daily.

The rising West London star is full of promise as he heads into 2020 with his first joint of the year ‘Paranoid’. Effortlessly transitioning between flows with an exceptional flair for storytelling and lyricism, Kid Tana is in a space of discovery where all the UK greats have risen from over recent years.

Produced by Akamoshen, ‘Paranoid’ samples the haunting strings of R&B classic ’Tell Me’ from Bobby Valentino, bringing with it a soulful edge to the hard bars and chaos of Kid Tana’s cold street tales. The record beats with emotion and depth as Kid Tana really comes into his own with this drop and is clearly enjoying the fruits of his studio time and ongoing musical experience and knowledge.

Following on from his well-received drop ‘Buju Banton’ and tracks including ‘Billie Jean’ and the ‘Killin Dem Remix’ with Muckass, Kid Tana has also boxed off a string of freestyles for Link Up TV and Bl@ckbox, which have spawned a slew of comments that tipped him as “up next” and “one to watch”.

Citizen Kay Teams Up With Genesis Owusu For Some ‘Funny Business’

Australian hip-hop artist CITIZEN KAY dishes up a tasty fun-packed, funk-fuelled joint titled ‘Funny Business’. Paying homage to the glory days of soulful US rap music of the 80s, the accompanied video could be mistaken for a US cult 80s movie or sitcom, which features the rapper kitted out as a typical high-flying yuppie.

Speaking on the release, Citizen Kay says “The track explores our relationship with mainstream media and how we’re expected to trust it all without question. People need to find their own truths. Stop adopting everything you read or see without researching it for yourself.”

2020 marks a fresh chapter for the ARIA-nominated artist who has toured Australia extensively, supporting the likes of Public Enemy, Run The Jewells, Ice Cube, Danny Brown, Wiz Khalifa and Earl Sweatshirt.

Song of the Day: Raw Smoothie – MH The Verb

2020 is the year that MH THE VERB intends to live a better life. The rapper, producer, DJ, and activist seeks to inspire others to follow suit in the music video for his latest single ‘Raw Smoothie’, shot at LaMaison (a community art & living space) in East Oakland, where MH participated in an artist residency in the summer of 2019.

“I left my boring corporate job on the day I wrote this song… That morning when I quit, I left and got a green smoothie with raw vegetables. It was almost like a metaphor for me trying to live better. This whole album was written as an affirmation for me to change habits and become the best version of myself in 2020. Raw Smoothie signifies a fresh start, a cleanse, a focus on being a better me.” – MH The Verb.

Produced by Buscrates 16 Bit Ensemble, ‘Raw Smoothie’ is from MH’s forthcoming album, ‘Space Ninja’. Due out February 28 via ArtHouse95/FourFingerDistro, the album will serve as the third installment in the Afronaut saga, a conceptual multimedia series based on a Black sci-fi heroine from the future who travels back in time to inspire the world.

Song of the Day: Mind Your Own Business – Lex Leosis

LEX LEOSIS‘ latest track, ‘Mind Your Own Business’ is for every person who has been frustrated by someone else trying to rush their process.

The Canadian rapper offer more insight into the Rainer + Grimm-produced track: “After three years spent with The Sorority (hip-hop group) and working on my sound, I was getting tired of people on me about my whereabouts and future plans. All that energy kinda exploded on to this track. Artists should work and create at their own pace. Sometimes art is made quickly, sometimes it’s a long and painful process. Artists are humans first and we go through things like everyone else.”

Using bouzouki (a Greek string instrument) as the main feature of the track, ‘Mind Your Own Business’ is the last piece from Lex’s upcoming new album.
