Elthia Shares Brand New Single, ‘I Love You But You Make Me Cry’

Following the release of her debut EP, ‘Island of Mine’, Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter, ELTHIA shares her latest offering, ‘I Love You, But You Make Me Cry.’ The song is the beginning of her new venture towards indie-pop music with dance elements, showcasing delicate instrumentation coupled with soft, dreamy vocals and glittery guitar harmonics.

‘I Love You, But You Make Me Cry’ was inspired by the pieces of a broken relationship. It’s about trying to reach someone, but they keep putting up their walls, trying to protect themselves – and every time you try to dig a little deeper, it hurts a little more. Elthia explains, “The message of the song is to tell the story of what it’s like to love something that hurts you every time you try to understand it. I wanted to show the duality of the two ideas that are constantly at war while existing inside of you, and showcase what the breaking point would actually be, if there is one at all.”

The Hamiltones Have A ‘Message To America’ In Latest Video

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was considered a landmark achievement of the Civil Rights Movement. While there have been many strides made since then, there’s still much more progress to be made in the fight for racial justice and equality 56 years later. This year has seen one of the biggest moments of reckoning for racial inequality and injustice in US recent history.

The Grammy-nominated viral R&B/Soul sensations, THE HAMILTONES keep the momentum going by letting their voices be heard, and encouraging others to do the same, in the new music video for their single ‘Message to America’, debuted on their YouTube channel last night (10/5/2020).

‘Message To America’ is from The Hamiltones’ powerful new album ‘1964’, which was released on the 57th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic ‘I Have A Dream’ speech at the March on Washington, and the 65th anniversary of the high-profile death of Emmett Till. With features from rapper Petey Pablo, and a recording from Congressman John Lewis, ‘1964’ serves as a timely tribute to the Civil Rights Movement in the U.S., while providing a moving soundtrack to the current global movement for racial justice and equality.

Song of the Day: Rabbit Hole – Substance Abuse (ft. Eric Steuer)

Los Angeles hip-hop duo SUBSTANCE ABUSE‘s single, ‘Rabbit Hole’, sees Subz and Eso Tre drop verses that break down the surreality of the modern world. Built on a foundation of cinematic ’70s soul, the track was produced by longtime collaborator Waes One and features guest emcee Eric Steuer.

“Rabbit Hole is a song for the times we’re in,” Eso says. “It’s about having fortitude and perseverance when there are devilish functions trying to pull you down. Whether it’s a counterproductive ideology or a corrupt government or just your own self doubt, it’s about not being swayed by the favorable and unfavorable circumstances that we all find ourselves in, and not being influenced by immediate, short-term considerations of gain or loss. We’re honored to have our good friend Eric to rap on this track because he’s one of the dopest and most cerebral emcees out there, and he’s been with us since ground zero when we dropped our first underground tape many moons ago.

Former URB Next 100 picks, Substance Abuse’s 2006 album, ‘Overproof’ features MF DOOM, Saafir, P.E.A.C.E., Kool Keith, Motion Man, Kutmasta Kurt and Rasco. ‘Overproof’ is followed up by their 2012 project ‘Background Music’ which features Myka Nyne, Tash of Tha Alkaholiks, KRS-One, MC Eiht and Percee P.

Album Review: Summer Catalogue – East Hampton Polo Boys

Recorded over a two day period back in February, New York’s hip-hop collective, EAST HAMPTON POLO BOYS present their album, ‘Summer Catalogue’ with such style and poise…

Melodic old school soulful samples complimenting the bounce of the urban/hip-hop bass, becomes the main feature of the mammoth collection, with a punch of smooth psychedelic funk making a pleasantly surprising appearance towards the end of the album.

With the guys taking turns in slamming down their easy-going, a matter of fact delivery on the delicately hazy arrangements, ‘Summer Catalogue’ will undoubtedly be appeasing to die-hard hip-hop heads, particularly to fans of Jay-Z (late 1980s) and KRS-1.
