Song of the Day: Dancing (In the Palm of My Hand) – The Spikes

Following the politically and emotionally charged debut single ‘Guns For The Children’—which quickly drew attention with over 20,000 views on YouTube—Iago Haussman, aka THE SPIKES, returns with a hauntingly beautiful follow-up that could rival, or even surpass, his breakout release.

His latest single, ‘Dancing (In the Palm of My Hand)’, opens under a veil of mystery, quickly pierced by stark, minimalist guitar plucks that lay the foundation for an emotionally raw exploration of desire, loss, and longing. Heavily inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, the track casts Jay Gatsby as an elusive figure—haunted by the past and consumed by his pursuit of something forever out of reach.

“I’ve always seen Gatsby as an almost mystical being—an elusive symbol of desire and secrecy,” explains Iago. “We don’t really know much about him—his past, his emotions, or the depth of his longing. I wanted to step into that uncertainty, to feel what it means to chase something beautiful and unattainable.”

Also an acclaimed poet, Haussman channels his lyrical prowess into vivid, surreal storytelling, weaving dreamlike imagery throughout his music. ‘Dancing (In the Palm of My Hand)’ doesn’t offer easy answers—instead, it lingers in ambiguity, inviting listeners to sit with the unknown.

“I’m not sure there’s a message there, exactly. And that’s really not for me to say, is it—what the audience takes away?” Iago reflects. “A feeling, perhaps? Or an image? The song touches on joy, beauty, and loss. It’s a love song, really—more existential than political, unlike my last single.”

Where ‘Guns For The Children’ shocked and stirred, ‘Dancing (In the Palm of My Hand)’ invites listeners into a more abstract, introspective realm—revealing yet another layer of THE SPIKES’ evolving artistry.

Now’s your chance to experience the surreal beauty of “Dancing (In the Palm of My Hand)”—out now on all major streaming platforms.

Jason Griff circles back and drop ‘Vanity Plates’ remix ft. Alaska, Alex Ludovico, Yak Ballz, Rob Sonic, 7×3=12 & Defcee

Back in May, rapper ALASKA & producer JASON GRIFF dropped their ‘Gerasco’ EP, and among the many standout songs was ‘Vanity Plates’ featuring Alex Ludovico. The song immediately caught the attention of fellow former Def Jux labelmate Yak Ballz, who asked for the instrumental to rap on – maybe just for the fun of it. However, moments like that are what get the wheels of creativity spinning – inspiring Alaska and Griff to bring back Ludovico with a fresh verse and join a murderer’s row of artists to lace the song with their own bars. Also joining them is Rob Sonic, 7×3=21 (AKA Kevin Beacham) and Defcee.

OUT TODAY: Remy Nova takes us on a trippy ride with single ‘Oh Deed (On Gummy Weed)’

Inspired by a harrowing personal experience, REMY NOVA‘s single, ‘Oh Deed (On Gummy Weed)’ – out today (25th July) across all good music platforms – documents the moment when an edible experimentation goes left field – and I mean really left field!

After giving up Xanax to manage anxiety, Remy (aka acclaimed songwriter/composer Jeremy Little), decided to trial some cannabis gummies before a rehearsal with a musical hero in Los Angeles. The euphoric sensation from popping the gummies quickly resulted in a very draaaaawwwwn ooooouuuuut journey home via a Uber ride, which was further exacerbated by several attempts to enter his apartment.

To capture the eventful experience, Remy blended blurry synths with echoic soulful hooks – imagine being in a very small room with Frank Ocean, Jimi Hendrix, Lenny Kravitz and Tame Impala all performing, creating a harmonious discord. Remy penned a touch of existential humour to the sonic soundscape to guide us to the point where reality swirls into surrealism. The track’s hypnotic vibe reflects Remy’s own intentions behind the music. “I would love for the audience to go on a journey with me—deep, deep down into the inner chambers of the mind,” he says. “I want them to feel like they’re flying through the ether untethered by physical laws.”

‘Oh Deed (On Gummy Weed)’ is out today, 25th July, from various music platforms. So why not lose yourself and go on a cosmic trip…

A Quick Chat With…Peter Lord

Introducing – or should I say – reintroducing PETER LORD. He’s the founding member of the genre-defying collective The Family Stand who helped shape the sound of generations with genre-defiant classics like ‘Chain’, ‘Moon in Scorpio’, ‘Connected’, and the timeless anthem ‘Ghetto Heaven’.

Now the trailblazing artist makes a powerful return with ‘BOOM,’ the explosive first single from his long-awaited solo album, ‘Songs From The 8th Dimension’, set for release next month, 29th August.

NLM: Hey, thank you for taking part in an interview with NEW LEASE MUSIC. It’s such a pleasure having you here. How is 2025 treating you so far?

PL: 2025 has been excellent. I have reconnected with the musical/sonic side of my creative instincts. During the last decade plus I have been primarily focused on the film and TV/streaming projects that I have written and am developing.

NLM: You recently released your single, ‘BOOM’ (on 4th July)’. What is the public’s perception of the single so far?

PL: The reaction has been extremely positive and receptive. And I have truly appreciated the fact that despite my recent inactivity in the music world, my new project feels relevant, and has resonated with new audiences, in addition to those who knew my music before.

NLM: What inspired you to produce the single?

Well the single “Boom”, as was, as all the songs on the album, were part of a musical TV/Streaming series I’ve written called “Love Junkies.” While that long process is still underway to bring it to the screen, I felt these songs also stood up on their own and needed to be heard.

NLM: How would you describe the single’s sound to potential fans?

PL: I would say it’s an electric mix of modern music, with elements, of rock, hip hop, soul, “alternative pop’, grounded in story telling through song. It ties together one’s personal/emotional battles with those struggles going on in the world as a whole. Each of us often forget the lessons learned previously in our lives, as the world and various societies often do… and then everything goes “Boom.” – exploding, with consequences we subsequently have to deal with, and find hard to control.

NLM: Back in the 90s, you were with The Family Stand, which was one of the groups that helped re-shaped modern soul, R&B and hip-hop. How do you compare your sound now with The Family Stand?

PL: I would say the thematic elements are the same, in terms of the stories I want to tell, but sonically and creatively I refuse to stay stuck. I’m not trying to bring back the 90’s or early 2000’s. I am not trying to be nor am I “old school” anything.

NLM: What message would you like the listeners to take away from your single?

PL: No message. I only hope the listener resonates with what’s being said, lol and unsaid, and find their own “message” that serves them in a way that awakens their “higher self” and a deeper, truer, perception of themselves in this dimension of existence.

NLM: If you had to feature one mainstream artist on ‘BOOM’, who would it be and why?

PL: One of my musical heroes, one who just passed, Sly Stone, and my childhood creative north star, Stevie Wonder.

NLM: So what are your plans for the rest of the year?

PL: To support and put out my new album “Songs From The 8th Dimension.” Which will include putting out at least two more singles. I may even do a few “unplugged. performances” I’ll post on social media. And I will continue to work on my TV & Film projects.

NLM: How can potential fans contact you?

PL: The best place is INSTAGRAM.

NLM: Finally, if music did not exist, what profession would you do?

PL: I would be an ASTROPHYSICIST! Or pro pickleball player. F it BOTH! LOL

Song of the Day: Pearls Of Wisdom – Mike Body

MIKE BODY’s latest single, Pearls of Wisdom,’ is a heartfelt tribute to that extraordinary woman in your life—whether it’s your mother, grandmother, sister or significant other—whose wisdom feels almost supernatural in its depth and power.

Known for his braggadocious beats, the American rapper always uses the platform wisely, covering a breadth of issues that affect, not only his native country, but across the globe. His hard-hitting delivery of the issues have resonated with listeners from all walks of life around the world, particularly in the UK. With every release, he always shows appreciation to the Lord, whatever situation he’s in. So if you’re not religiously inclined, his messages are still relatable, as they offer some degree of encouragement and empowerment, which provides motivation to make a change for the better.

Although he pays homage to the strong women in his life, ‘Pearls Of Wisdom’ also shows his utmost gratitude to the Lord for placing that special person his life. Mike Body takes on a softer delivery, complementing layers of featherily soundscapes. While ‘Pearls Of Wisdom’ detours from his usual boastful sound, Mike Body still adds his signature magic ingredient — the infectiously heavy bass…

‘Pearls Of Wisdom’ is accessible on all good music platforms. Why not check it out the accompanied video below…
