Lex Leosis Returns with Track ‘Ouzo’

If you fly by the blog regularly, then you should know that LEX LEOSIS is loud, opinionated, and constantly fighting for what she believes in. Check out her previous releases here.

From humble beginnings, Lex first found a home in hip-hop at rap competitions and cyphers. She met a number of creatives through online rap communities and has joined her peers in cities all over the U.S. to collaborate, make music and perform. Spending most of her time in the Bay Area of California, Lex has allowed her traveling influences to expand her music sound and capability.

Sonically different to her previous releases, Lex’s brand new single, ‘Ouzo’, adopts a downtempo groove-driven vibe with funk inspired riffs and smooth melodies juxtaposed with an attack in her flow.

EP Review: Grizzly – Bby Ivy

After hearing tracks, ‘Rewind’ and ‘Sweet Like Honey’, released earlier this year, I was eager to see urban pop songstress BBY IVY‘s next move…and that next move comes in the shape of a six-track EP, ‘Grizzly’, which pretty much carries on the braggadocious presence presented in the aforementioned tracks.

A titillating mix of urban and electro pop introduces the EP through, ‘Sorry Doesn’t Cut it Today’. Whilst this joint offers an uplifting bounce, the lyrics adds contrast to the picture, where Bby tells the tale of heartbreak and betrayal.

Next offering, ‘Shame On Your Mama’ offers a more relaxed urban hip-hop/mainstream tone, where the Norwegian newcomer disses one’s actions that doesn’t reflect the grace and manners what their mother taught them.

‘Nkd Like That’ puts another spin on the mini collection, dishing out straight up trip-hop, ditching the mainstream sound featured in previous efforts. However that accessible sound does make a return in concluding piece, ‘Suck My’, an anthem for those who feel constantly criticized by others. A similar tone to ‘Nkd Like That’, the track carries a lighter trip-hop vibe with sugary over tones, making it appeasing to a wider audience.

In her short years on this earth, this teenager has experienced countless heartbreaks and betrayal…but it didn’t get her down. Instead, she turned a load of positives into negatives, through her quirky storytelling – and it’s all there in ‘Grizzly’.

Must Listens: Shame On Ur Mama, Sweet Honey, Suck My

Song of the Day: Slow Right Down – Jeffery James

Taken from his new EP, ‘East London’, Nashville-based singer/songwriter JEFFREY JAMES’ single, ‘Slow Right Down,’ is a pensive ballad that highlights James’ confident and inviting vocals.

Speaking of the release, The Billboard-approved singer says: “I wrote ‘Slow Right Down’ in 2019 when everything in my life was racing forward and I didn’t have time to catch my breath,” James writes. “This song became my personal mantra — a meditation — reminding myself that it’s OK to step back, look up every now and then, and just take in the moment.”

The ‘East London’ EP, released 28th February, was birthed during a month-long songwriting trip to London in early 2019. James worked with legendary engineer Geoff Swan (Charli XCX, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay) and producers Jackson Dimiglio-Wood (Shawn Mendes), Dan Weller (SikTh), and Dan McDougal (Liam Gallagher) to create a uniquely cross-Atlantic record that draws on James’ Nashville influences and combines them with the blue-eyed soul sounds that have been dominating the UK charts.

Sylo Shares New R&B Driven Piece, ‘Ginny’

Formerly as known as Sylo Nozra, SYLO‘s brand new single, ‘Ginny’ tackles the issue of being in a cycle of addiction, presented over a smooth, groove-driven R&B arrangements.

Born into a Korean family with religious roots, Sylo sang in church services as a child, leading him to learn several instruments at once. Sylo’s musical talents were further enhanced by his older sister who played 90s R&B and hip-hop.

The Toronto-based newcomer then turned his hand to writing and performing his own songs. His work has received global recognition, charting virally on both Spotify and Apple, amassing well over ten million plays. Additionally, Sylo’s songwriting skills have placed him in studios amongst Grammy-winning/nominated songwriters in Los Angeles, London and Toronto.

‘Ginny’ is taken from Sylo’s debut album, set for release in August.

Song of the Day: Tim Burt – Keynes Woods

KEYNES WOODS returns with single ‘Tim Burt’, the second drop from his long-awaited EP ‘Kongo Kane’, out now.

‘Tim Burt’, the signature single from the project, gives credit where credits due – Keynes shouts out to all the people it takes to put music out.

He states: “A lot of artists get props for the numbers on the board, but other areas of their game are ignored”. He uses this clever metaphor to reflect on his background as an athlete and ball-player and transfer it to music. He wants to celebrate the well-rounded trench workers that may not get as much love as the flashy one-note players.

The Toronto-based rapper has been celebrated for his experimental voice and playful aesthetics since the start of his musical career but it wasn’t until his epic performance in the COLORS box early last year where he was launched into the spotlight. Since then he has gained support from the likes of Highsnobiety, Redbull, Complex, Hypebeast and TMRW  and is fast becoming one of Toronto’s sizeable up and-comers.
