Album Review: Rawest 2 – Fly Von

Unlike his pervious set, ‘Fly Von Mix Vo.1’ FLY VON‘s latest album, ‘Rawest 2’  features mellowed out backdrops, melodic chants all brought together by the intermittent presence of the b-line – in fact it’s a complete opposite of the name of the album…

However, I might have spoken too soon as further along the album, the melodic chants becomes more sporadic, the semi-tranquil bassline becomes more infectiously HARD and Fly Von’s trance-like flow turns all RAW. Ninth effort, ‘Fast Life’, totally interrupts the album’s tranquility with its bold energy and Fly’s fiery flow which gives such an unbelieve head rush.

All in all, I did expect a little more punch from ‘Rawest 2’ – that ‘I don’t give a f**k energy presented in his previous releases – however what this album has showed me is that this Virginia rapper can do it as smooth as they come and it can be still soul-satisfying. Check out ‘Rawest 2’ below and songs recommendations.

Flaws Shares Dreamy Single, ‘It’s Getting Dark’

Rotterdam-based indie-electronic singer-songwriter and producer, Daan Havenith -who goes under the moniker FLAWS – kicks off 2021 with new single, ‘It’s Getting Dark.’

The concept for this single originated when Flaws came across a song by girldontcry on Soundcloud. The track immediately sparked his imagination, influencing Flaws to produce his own perspective by sampling the original vocals while adding his own creative arrangements and personal, relatable verses to it. The humble guitar melodies, the melancholic soundscapes, and the personal, emotive, yet raw-sounding verses all alternate beautifully with the girldontcry sample.

Having released multiple EPs, remixes, and covers on bitbird since his discovery by San Holo a couple of years back, ‘It’s Getting Dark’ is Flaws’ first release on bitbird since his acoustic cover of DROELOE’s ‘I CAN’T WAIT,’ released in the early stages of 2020’s first lockdown.

Have a listen to ‘It’s Getting Dark’, one of Flaws’ most personal, expressive and creative work to date…

Goodboy Noah Drops Smooth Afterhours Joint, ‘Tie Down’

Gearing up for the release of his debut EP due out later this year, Southern California-based R&B singer and songwriter, GOODBOY NOAH, has delivered sultry new single ‘Tie Down’. The track co-written by noah alongside Dan Henig (ZAYN, Noah Cyrus, Chelsea Cutler) and Micah Gordon (Cautious Clay, Neon Trees) who also produced the track.

On the inspiration behind his new single, “tie down,” goodboy noah shares, “‘tie down’ is about finding someone that you think could be the one, not just a partner, but a partner in crime. I challenged myself to write a love song without using the word ‘love,’ and this is what came out. I brought the demo to Micah Gordon to produce it, and when he played the strings for the outro on his Nord keyboard I started freaking out because it was exactly how I thought the song was supposed to feel.”

Known for his juxtaposition of his smooth, melodic R&B sound and colorful personality, goodboy noah is a Toronto native — now based in Los Angeles — who is breaking into the R&B space with a fun flare. “My goal as an artist is to bring happiness to the world through my music and style,” says noah. “I want people to see that you don’t have to take yourself too seriously in this life, it’s heavy enough as it is, so I want to make things a little lighter.”

‘Tie Down’ was released yesterday on download and streaming sites. Have a listen to the smooth afterhours joint below…

Marina Massanova’s New Single, ‘Normality’ Will Stop You Dead in Your Tracks

Untamed and brimming with raw rap energy, MARINA MASSANOVA‘s latest smash track takes us on an adrenaline-drenched thrill ride through a furious flurry of genres. From the hard-hitting hip-hop bars to the drastic flip into hardbass, here’s one song that’s bold, daring and impossible to ignore.

When she pitched the idea to her beatmaker he thought she was crazy to mix together such a whimsical selection of genres. Marina persevered though and they are both elated with the end result. It all started when she conjured up an idea for a song that questions what “normal” really is. She called up her rapper friend Chris Jenkins straight away and they wrote the song together over video call. The duo really dug deep into the darker side of themselves to pull together something that really bares her soul for all the world to see.

The Ukrainian singer-songwriter also directed the video. Dripped in cool, calm charisma, it shows her with her two friends from first grade getting into all kinds of mischief. From visuals of intercourse with an imaginary guy, to the slapping of buttocks, it really grabs your attention and stops you dead in your tracks.

So if you can handle it, why not press play on ‘Normality’ below…
