Song of the Day: Invisible Enemy – Georgia Black

North London’s Blues singer GEORGIA BLACK‘s single, ‘Invisible Enemy’ was written at the very start of the lockdown and was inspired by a conversation Georgia had with a colleague of hers, Roberta – Georgia works as a Learning Support Assistant in a college for her day job.

Roberta said, “Don’t you think it’s crazy that whenever we’re usually unwell, we feel we have to be the hero and push ourselves to go to work, but right now, to be the hero is the other way round?”

This really resonated with Georgia and built up an image in her head of super heroes saving lives by staying at home, which laid the foundation for the song. Sonically ‘Invisible Enemy’ is very theatrical in nature, showcasing cinematic soundscapes reminiscent of something from a Bond movie. Her soulful, sultry vocals bring to mind the likes of Lana Del Rey, whilst the seductive synths emit a mesmerising release.

Ryan Whyte Maloney’s Latest Single, ‘I Am The One’ Tackles Depression And Suicide

Featuring melodic guitar riffs and light percussion, RYAN WHYTE MALONEY‘s new single, ‘I Am the One’ was written in one of the darkest times of his life. Fueled by negative feelings and traumatic past experiences that left a deep scar in his being, Ryan pushed through it all and channeled those feelings to make art.

‘I Am the One’ contains a strong anti-suicide message, in words of Ryan himself about this song: “I hope this song can be a mantra or a beacon of light in your life to merely say you’re not alone and everyone thinks of the dark thoughts that appear like a dark twin mirrored reflection. Wipe away that tearful reflection and know that tomorrow is another day to see what you’re still capable of becoming. You are worthy of live and were put on this earth to give energy and to be a working cog in this game of life. It’s never too late to start over again, it’s hard but every happy ending starts with a first step, so take yours today and make HISTORY remember you!”

Oslo Based Producer And Artist LOKOY Shares New Single ‘Both Eyes’ Ft. Safario

Ahead of the release of debut album ‘Badminton’, Norwegian futuristic artist and producer LOKOY (aka Lasse Lokøy) shares new single ‘Both Eyes’ with fellow Norwegian Safario, with an accompanying video shot on a tiny propeller aeroplane.

Perfectly exemplifying Lokoy’s experimental songwriting and production, and putting Safario’s raw talent on full display, ‘Both Eyes’ was written, recorded and mixed in just eights hours in Lokoy’s home studio. Determined to make a “banger” one day prior to the album delivery deadline, the resulting track is a feisty two-minute attack on the senses sitting somewhere between Blur and Beastie Boys.

Out now on all download and streaming sites, ‘Both Eyes’ sets the tone for Lokoy’s album ‘Badminton’, slated for release on 22nd January 2021, via Lokoy (under exclusive license to Propeller Recordings). Check out the video for the single below…

Dani Darling’s New Single, ‘All Stars’ Is A Welcomed Relief From The Year’s Trauma

With the success of her debut EP, ‘Nocturne’ and critical acclaim as one of the Detroit Metro Times’ 2020 ‘Bands To Watch’, singer-songwriter DANI DARLING‘s 2020 was shaping up to be a breakout year… but when a worldwide pandemic temporarily derailed her hopes and aspirations, the Michigan native was forced to cancel tour dates and found new inspiration in solitude during quarantine.

In the midst of chaos, and a national debate over the value of human life, Dani sought to cope with the year’s trauma through recording her forthcoming EP ‘Mage’, due out on all digital streaming platforms on 11th November. A celebration of the power of Black women through the lens of astrology, the project serves to uplift listeners and provide relief from the communal trauma experienced in 2020. Today (29th October) the alt R&B & soul songstress releases the project’s definitive and second single, ‘All Stars’.

Song of the Day: Why Did You – Zacarias

Filipino-Canadian neo-soul singer-songwriter and producer ZACARIAS‘ latest single, ‘Why Did You?’ is a moody ballad about trying to put the pieces of a broken relationship back together.

Unafraid to show his vulnerability on his sleeves, Zacarias’ downtrodden refrains and the track’s meditative pace work like the slow, circling thoughts of heartbreak.

“All of my songs deal with relationships and human interaction,” said Zacarias. “By sharing my own experiences of love and loss, I hope to give people moments to reflect on, feelings to go back to, and maybe inspire some sort of positive change in their lives.”

Getting to the sad core of various matters of the heart, Zacarias’ smooth grooves were born from the dark soul of Daniel Caesar and alternative R&B world of Frank Ocean.

The father of a one-year-old hasn’t let his new role or COVID-19 slow him down, over the past year he’s quietly released 18 singles on SoundCloud, culminating in two separate releases: 2019 debut LP, Manilaman, which hit the No. 1 spot on the CJSW chart; and 2020 EP, ISO, another collection of easy-on-the-ears, head-bobbing slow jams.

Also an emerging producer, Zacarias has collaborated with a number of Alberta artists, and a new project with hip hop act A.Y.E. is currently in the works.

Look for a string of new singles from Zacarias throughout 2020…for now, have a listen to ‘Why Did You?’…
