Song of the Day: Breakup Tutorial – Laraw

LARAW‘s latest single, ‘Breakup Tutorial’, is probably one of her rawest material to date. Draped in downtempo pop soundscapes, which builds up to raging emotive guitar riffs, her latest effort chronicles a traumatic breakup which stills resonates with the Canadian singer/songwriter and reaches out to those who lived through the same experience.

More music on the way from this talented contender…but for now, have a listen to ‘Breakup Tutorial’…

LaDé Unleashed Her Sultry Debut Single ‘Teaser’

Congolese/Canadian singer and songwriter LADÉ  carries on the Valentines – or should I say – anti-Valentines theme this weekend with her bold and sensual debut single, Teaser’. Written and produced with burgeoning Ottawa-based artist and musician Jeff Sanon, ‘Teaser’ gives a sneak preview of what to expect from her upcoming debut EP, set to be released in the summer.

Backed by lush minimalist R&B musical soundscapes, LaDé uses her new track ‘Teaser’ to showcase her enchanting and sultry vocal performance, sensual harmonies, and captivating songwriting dexterities that combine beautifully to deliver an infectious and undeniably smooth R&B masterclass.

Speaking about the inspiration for ‘Teaser’, LaDé says, “The song is about the desire to become a better version of yourself after experiencing a rather toxic relationship, and then showing off that better version to the infamous ex, because your best revenge is your comeback. It’s a true story about my recovery process after a particular bad break up. We tend to subconsciously allow how other people, specifically our significant others, view us, what they think of us and do to us, depreciate our value as individuals but ‘Teaser’ is my way of reminding an ex-lover of what they lost and will never get back – a temporary tease for one night if you will. The track is about growing mentally, physically, and spiritually after experiencing a relationship that negatively impacted your life, and unapologetically displaying that growth”.

Selci Shares Surreal Anti-Valentine’s Day Video for Single ‘Strangers’ Today

Calgary alt-pop artist SELCI unveils her new video for ‘Strangers’ – an anti-Valentine’s Day track about a love that’s faded and gone – off her debut ‘Effervescence EP’. The single recalls a run-in with an ex-lover, and the painful realisation that after knowing someone so intimately, you hardly know them at all.

The video is framed around the deterioration of a relationship, juxtaposing Selci’s own memories in a surreal, subconscious world. A series of hazy vignettes spiral through memory, romance, dissociation and the loss of self. Blending high-definition and 8 mm film, home video and stop motion animation, analog textures are used to imply nostalgia and the timeless nature of broken relationships, while flickers of animation enhance the surrealist vibe.

“As the video progresses, I become cloaked in layers of fabric,” says Selci. “Happy memories are overcome by recollections of anger and violence, and I become engulfed by tulle. As the intensity increases, the boundary between reality and the subconscious world is blurred. This veiling is meant to signify the loss of self in a relationship. It mirrors the sensation of distance from the self and the distance from a lover as the relationship falls apart.”

Romysa Drops Debut Solo Single, ‘Missin Out’

With unique vocals described as ‘candy-coated pop’ with an undeniable edge of R&B,  ROMYSA slammed down her brand new pop single, ‘Missin Out’  last Friday (7th February).

The Amsterdam upcoming urban songstress’ musical background has been very niche, having previously released records in the Electronic Dance Music Scene, which led her to work with dance heavyweights like DJ Afrojack. Since then Romysa has been travelling around the world to collaborate with various renowned DJ’s. Last year, Romysa decided to focus on her solo music career which brought her to a new team that believed in pushing her project internationally. Since then Los Angeles has pretty much become her second home, as she develops her artistry in the city of angels. Her new musical offerings pay homage to her EDM musical grounding but also delivers across the pop and RnB spectrum, and more, to produce a whole new fresh sound. She says herself her new sound is “a kind of rhythmic pop that explores the genres of modern R&B, Pop, and Hip Hop”

The latest release is her first single as a solo artist. She says of her debut offering: “’Missin Out’ is a type of record you’d play to boost your self-esteem while moving on from a break-up. It has a catchy melodic vibe and sing-able chorus to it. It’s pretty much a song about all the f**k boys that missed out on me!”

It’s very clear that no one messes with Romysa! Check out the video for single below…

Brandon Rivers Returns With ‘Delete My Number’

Following his appearance on the blog with track ‘Girlplay’ last June, R&B smooth bad boy BRANDON RIVERS is back with his latest single ‘Delete My Number’.

Speaking of the release, the 23-year-old singer/songwriter says: “Delete My Number was written about the notion of ‘ghosting’ and the role it seems to play in attempting to form relationships within my generation. Like all my music, it was written from an autobiographical perspective. I think it’s now a normality that if someone is removed from your life completely from any social platforms, they are no longer a part of your life at all, how I used this track to translate this idea is through its imagery, using race, jealousy and fairly obscure references to William Blake, Byron, Richey Edwards and even Usain Bolt to convey the concept that it’s easier to get over someone by removing them completely from your life, as sad as that may be.”

Brandon has already been heralded by BBC Introducing as “One To watch” with his blend of ‘after-dark pop’ which have seen him grace the stages of Bestival and Victorious Festivals, building a loyal fanbase by performing at venues across the UK.

As a multi-instrumentalist, Brandon thrives on being different. Being alternative was something instilled at birth for Rivers, being a mixed-race kid from the New Forest on the South Coast of England. Growing up on 90’s R&B and House mixtapes along with early 00’s Indie, Brandon began making music from a young age. His unique mix of Trap, Pop and Alternative R&B has drawn comparisons to artists such as Drake and Ariana Grande.

This promising hot property has a packed schedule for 2020, with ‘Delete My Number’ the first of many releases, with a number of festival slots of be announced shortly.
