Song of the Day: Island – Quietype

Toronto-based trio QUIETYPE‘s latest single, ‘Island’ chronicles the feeling of isolation just before the end of a relationship, despite best efforts of keeping it alive. Through the message in the song, Quietype hopes to reach to those who had the same experience.

The guys confessed that ‘Island’ is their proudest work from their brand new self-titled debut EP as the piece is one of the first songs they wrote as a group.

Speaking of the release, Quietype says: “This one was a really interesting song to tackle when it came to recording. There were so many layers, so many unique sounds and tones we wanted to incorporate. For us, it was mainly about finding the balance of incorporating all the sounds we had in our heads while still keeping the song subtle and clear.”

Track Premiere: Only – Dorian Thorson

NEW LEASE MUSIC is EXTREMELY pleased to be the first to present DORIAN THORSON‘s brand new single titled ‘Only’.

Boasting a laid-back, trap/afterhours vibe, ‘Only’ is about experiencing that first love and how it can fade away without having any real closure.

Speaking of his new release, Dorian says: “I wrote this song as a goodbye to mine as I’m pretty sure I’ll never see them again. I didn’t really get the closure I would have liked so ‘Only’ is my closure. Don’t get it twisted, I’ve moved on years ago but this song tells a key part of my life story and needed to be released to the world. That’s just how i want all my proceeding work to be –  Journalistic, personal yet relatable material.”

‘Only’ was supposed to be included in his debut album ‘The Come Up’ (check out the album and review here.) Dorian explains: “I felt like ‘Only’ didn’t fit among the others as it has a whole different instrumental for it.”

Out today on all major download and streaming sites, ‘Only’ marks the beginning of Dorison’s shift from his ‘hip-hop/Rnb’ combo to something more sensual and soulful. So keep your eye on this serious contender as he releases more material throughout the year.

Chynna Lewis Shares Her Brand New Single, ‘Mind And Soul’

CHYNNA LEWIS fell in love with a close friend and out of fear of rejection of wanting more than just a casual fling, she kept her cards close to her chest.

After harbouring those feelings, the Taiwanese Canadian singer-songwriter plucked up the courage to call him. Once the secret was out, the fear of rejection quickly turned to feeling empowered for taking action…and this inspired her to release the brand new single, ‘Mind and Soul’.

Sporting a rather salacious alt-afterhours R&B/soul vibe, ‘Mind and Soul’ explores the playfulness and excitement of a definite attraction between two people… but with the trials and tribulations of today’s dating world, which presents the illusion of choice that exists through apps and people playing games, It makes it near impossible to get the stage of expressing raw and honest feelings in a clear way.

This one’s a real gem…make sure you check out ‘Mind and Soul’ below, out now on all major download/streaming sites.

Snotty Nose Rez Kids Gets ‘Real Deadly’ In New Single, Ahead Of EP + Tour

Haisla Nation hip-hop duo, SNOTTY NOSE REZ KIDS (SNRK), have recently announced their new EP, ‘Born Deadly’, set for release 3rd April. To offer some favour of the forthcoming EP, the guys have dropped a blazing a video for lead single, ‘Real Deadly’, which features the pair posing as scientists, experimenting with substances that are proven to be real deadly!

Discussing the lead single, Real Deadly, Quinton “Yung Trybez” Nyce and Darren “Young D” Metz state, “We like to refer to things that are dope as real deadly. We wrote this song about feeling strong and confident in who we are as people and artists and want that to transfer to the listener. Much in the way that our track, Boujee Natives, spoke to the richness of indigenous fashion, style, culture, and identity, we want ‘Real Deadly’ to be a positive affirming song. A lot of the music we wrote for this EP was inspired by the energy we feel at our shows. The tracks are ‘turn up’ tracks and we intended for fans to not only hear them on record, but at our live shows too.”
