London based Nigerian rap artist IYKZ has been releasing music independently since 2012, and has always felt that something’s been missing; a connection of some sort. The story; his story, the good the bad and the ugly. The story of his background, IYKZ’ Roots.

IYKZ is of African decent, he’s Nigerian, patriotic and proud. This single is what he feels those feelings of inner love and peace sound like. With the rich afro-inspired rap production from Ransom Beatz (Davido, Big Tobz, Runtown), IYKZ explores memories of his childhood, showing his journey much gratitude and adoration….

We all went into 2020 with high hopes, only to find out the new decade was bringing in many challenges. As a result, we’ve all had to grind harder, change our approach, and find a way to reach the goals we set out for ourselves.

Marina Massanova Releases New Single, Dank’o’holic

Ukrainian genre-fluid punk rap queen MARINA MASSANOVA‘s heavy-hitter, ‘Dank’o’holic’, is the perfect anthem for anybody who likes a good drink. Touching on subjects like partying and alcoholism, the single is inspired by alcohol addiction.

She wrote the song after her friend said she should stop writing songs about love. Being a bit of a boozer she instead suggested she wrote some music about being passed out on the floor drunk out of her mind. The song is the perfect recollection of a drunk woman having a great time. She took all the best memories of partying and brought in rapper Chris Jenkins to write the song together. The infectious beat perfectly captures the vibe of the track, giving the feel of a drunk person trying to play guitar over loose, heavy-hitting rhythms.

Marina is currently working on her first full-length album which will showcase her new found punk rap style.

Song of the Day: U Gd? – L E M F R E C K

South Wales native L E M F R E C K continues to carry the torch for his hometown, by delivering his single ‘U Gd?’

‘U Gd?’ finds the rapper treading a percussion-led backbeat uplifted by an overarching guitar riff. He sets the tone for the track ahead, then proceeds to inflect the steady instrumental with his slightly accented bars that he delivers with great confidence and caution.

Reflecting the lyrical inspiration behind the track; which complies a number of references from a turbulent romance to the daily grind, the music video for single shows L E M F R E C K roaming the streets at night, getting up to no good.

Growing up, he was heavily inspired by the exciting buzz and growth of UK urban scene. After the realisation of the vast under-representation of his country within the genre he decided to take matters into his own hand. Fuelled by the disparity he began to build on the musical foundations built while producing in a local church, where his father was the pastor.

Eager to explore and experience the scene first hand, the rapper remembers frequenting cities like Bristol and London to soak up the Pirate Radio culture. Now a fully formed producer, the artist takes on a new skill… the art of wordplay. Watch out for the L E M F R E C K, he has a lot more to deliver this year….

Song of the Day: Ignorant – L3

Essie Gang member L3 jumps right into today’s hot spot with solo output ‘Ignorant’.

The trippy visual for the single – directed by Views (Armin) and filmed by Above Ground – takes place partly in London and in the acclaimed ancient site of Puzzlewood. This site holds an iconic symbolism, leaving L3’s fanbase aware of his ongoing ascension within the industry.
