BBC Future Sounds Artist HYPHEN Brand New Single ‘Stand Back’ Addresses Overcoming Depression

Following a brilliant year playing BBC Introducing Live, Reading & Leeds Festivals; as well as multiple shows for Sofar Sounds, London based, alternative hip-hop artist, HYPHEN returns track ‘Stand Back’.

Using his music as a platform to maintain a conversation on mental health, Aadarsh Gautam, Aka. Hyphen, frequently finds solace in songwriting and is not afraid to address and share his personal aperture. To spread a positive impact, he has single handedly raided over £6.5k for New Horizons a charity that works to alleviate homelessness in London. He also performed for Sanctus, a mental health charity, to raise awareness for depression in young men – given how close an issue it is to his heart.

Speaking on the track, Hyphen explains: “I’ve talked a lot about mental health in my music, and that always tends to focus on the bad parts (being depressed, anxious etc.) but I wanted to do something which is about feeling good about yourself, looking in the mirror and feeling like you’re doing alright. The world is terrible place in so many ways – I love how some songs can put you in a good mood regardless of that. I wanted to try make song that had that impact.”

In just six months he has gathered quite the collection of accolades. His single ‘We’re OK’, written during a dark time in Hyphen’s life when he was struggling with his mental health, was picked up by London Evening Standard and received national radio play on BBC Asian Network who tipped Hyphen as ‘The Future of British Asian Hip-Hop’. Hyphen also appeared on Metro’s Mental Health podcast Mentally Yours, to share his battle with mental health and how music helped shape his future.

Follow up singles, ‘Ice Cold’ and ‘Feels Right’, also saw national radio play from BBC 6 Music, with legendary radio presenter Tony Robinson saying, ‘You’ve got a great career ahead of you’. Further afield, all three tracks have gained momentum at BBC Introducing, which led to Hyphen playing the BBC Introducing stage at Reading and Leeds Festivals, and BBC Introducing Live.

Asha Gold delivers stunning visuals for debut single ‘Too Good’

Last year, ASHA GOLD made waves with her debut single ‘Too Good’, quickly amassing over 10,000 monthly Spotify listeners since it’s release one month ago. The R&B-influenced electronic pop tune was also played by BBC Radio 1’s Jamz Supernova, selected for Tidal’s Rising: R&B playlist, and also gained praise at Colors, Elevator, Clash Magazine, Earmilk and more.

Following this initial success, Asha Gold delivers stunning visuals in collaboration with AIME Magazine and filmed by Nick Bailey.

Speaking about the concept behind the ‘Too Good’ video, this West London newcomer says:“I wanted the visuals for “Too Good” to project the positive message of the song, and express who I am in an authentic but engaging way. Song of the Day: Stubborn Love – Josh Kumra

Having topped the UK charts and performed on ‘Later… With Jools Holland’ before having released his debut album, ‘Good Things Come To Those Who Don’t Wait’, JOSH KUMRA suddenly found himself with a major record deal and under pressure to capitalise on the sudden exposure brought by his collaboration with Wretch 32 on ‘Don’t Go’. The single shot straight to #1 in the UK upon its release.

Most would assume this is the definition of ‘making it’ as a musician, but for Josh the unexpected publicity meant losing the original idea of ‘writing music from the heart’. He went on to admit: “Instead of having the time to perfect songs that reflected my life experiences and create an honest album, like I’ve always imagined, I felt vulnerable and lost against the many opinions and expectations from people around me”.

Stepping away from the rat race, Josh circles back to his true self to produce and record his latest single, ‘Stubborn Love’ a raw and honest piece which reflects the struggle of dedicating yourself to something for all the wrong reasons.

Available now on all download/streaming sites, ‘Stubborn Love’ is the first release Josh’s upcoming EP, ‘Pull Me Back In’ – slated for release in April.

July Jones Delivers Video For Single ‘Switch It Off’

Having released the audio at the end of last year, JULY JONES unleashes the  video for single, ‘Switch It Off’.

Speaking on the release, the British-Slovene artist says: “The single is about waking up from a one-night-stand and constantly thinking about the person you were with the night before. This is exactly what happened to my boyfriend & I, I became obsessed with fantasying about him to the point I couldn’t switch it (my mind) off.”

The fierce production mirrors the obsession and shows Jones hooked up to multiple videos of previous sexual encounters. Each video is drip-fed through cables that connect the braids on her head to the televisions, playing each individual memory back to her.
