Song of the Day: Cooked Food – Vicky Sola

BBC 1Xtra and Capital Xtra supported Brixton Afrofusion singer/songwriter, VICKY SOLA is one to watch this year! She kick starts her 2019 with the exciting new music video for her latest single ‘Cooked Food’, taken from her long awaited and highly anticipated debut EP, which is set for release later this year.

Written by VICKY SOLA, and produced by Delirious, who has previously worked with Tinie Tempah, Lady Leshurr, Stylo G, Mista Silva, among others, ‘Cooked Food’ is an infectious R&B/Pop slanted offering, with unmistakable Afrobeats sensibilities, which is backed by lush piano arrangements and bass heavy drums, and held together nicely by Vicky’s captivating vocal and lyrical performance.

For the ‘Cooked Food’ video, VICKY SOLA took things back to her hometown in Brixton, with the help of burgeoning video director Marika Godwin (Nolay, Trillary Banks, Runtown). Filmed around the vibrant Brixton market, with choreography directed by Patience J (WSTRN, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Emeli Sande), the outcome is a fierce and colourful visual offering that not only brings the record further to life, but also showcases Vicky’s infectious personality and performance prowess.

New Track: Words – Molly Hammar

Swedish chart-topping RnB sensation MOLLY HAMMAR reveals ‘Words’, the second single from her forthcoming EP.

The addictive, dancefloor-friendly ‘Words’ was written with Molly’s childhood friend Benjamin Ingrosso and produced by Hampus Lindvall (Icona Pop/Zara Larsson). The infectious upbeat pop song simply encourages us to talk openly to each other.

A spirit of adventure, independence and self-discovery shines through Molly’s new music as her captivating vocal directly expresses her opinions and emotions. Previous single ‘No Place Like Me’ featuring grime legend Big Narstie continues to climb the UK Spotify viral chart, garnered widespread media support across the UK from the likes of BBC 1Xtra, Radio 2, Channel 4, The Line of Best Fit and Complex to name but a few.

MOLLY HAMMAR is set to continue winning over UK audiences throughout 2019 with her stunning voice and big personality. Spending her time traveling between London, Stockholm and LA, writing new songs both for herself and other artists. She’s co-written and guested on songs with Sick Individuals and SONDR among others.

The next few months will see the release of another single and a second EP that finds Molly baring her soul on the dynamic within relationships, her own identity and lost nights out in London.

Song of the Day: Honey Bee – RVBY

Following the release of her debut track ‘L.O.V.E’, pop artist RVBY brings on a vibrant single entitled ‘Honey Bee’ via Funnel Music.

The first of a series of singles, ‘Honey Bee’ demonstrates the fun and unique energy of the Bristol native singer. Her quirky, cutting edge pop sound is highlighted in her clever song writing, catchy rhythms and upbeat production.

“Honey Bee is about big dreamers.” states RVBY. “But when those people get caught up in the daily routine of their working lives it can stop the colour from coming in. I wrote this song to say I have the same big dream and I’m going to try and make it a reality.”

RVBY‘s debut ‘L.O.V.E’ was included in Amazon Music’s ‘Girl Squad’ playlist, as well as receiving support from Amazing Radio and BBC Introducing. No stranger to the live circuit, she performed 20 university shows for Coffee House Sessions last year, and more recently supported Self Esteem at Ramsgate Music Hall in Kent.

Song of the Day: Over & Done – MH The Verb

MH THE VERB drops another standout joint from his 2017 Afronaut project entitled ‘Over & Done’, which serves as an anthem of self-pride.

Apropos to National Women’s Month the accompanied music video, directed Bob Sweeney, champions two Philly based female artists of colour who are succeeding and advancing in their respective male-dominated fields: glass artist Kim Thomas and flow artist/fire dancer Alicia Talia.

Laced with a lick of soulful Afro rap, TAM4R4’s debut single, ‘I Gotcha Back’ drops just in time to give those summer months that extra spice.

The London songstress’ Dancehall vocal gives the @IGODARKMUSIC-produced banger a full-on ballsy vibe.
