Song of the Day: Just My Luck – Her Songs

HER SONGS is a global female collective of producers, musicians, songwriters and artists. United by a mutual mission to shine a light on female producers and artists and to celebrate female collaboration, the group shares single ‘Just My Luck’, the second single to be lifted from upcoming EP ‘Toronto Vol. 2’, out tomorrow (14th August).

Consisting of London based Dane Marie Dahlstrom, Brooklyn based Colombian Dani Murcia, Christchurch New Zealand-based Emily C Browning, French Londoner The Naked Eye and London based Emmavie – Her Songs have a sound that traverses genres including neo-soul, R&B and pop.

‘Just My Luck’ finds the group taking cues from the 90’s and early 2000’s R&B pop hits of their youth. A song which celebrates all members of the group’s widespread backgrounds, cultures and talents, the lyrics are written in 3 different languages; English, Spanish and French and features all 5 girls’ voices, instrumentation – and is produced by Emmavie.

Fusing together intricate guitar passages, stunning vocal harmonies, and slick R&B production – the lyrics were are borrowed from titles of Musiq Soulchild songs, one of the girls’ key points of inspiration for the project.

Written, recorded, and produced together over the course of a week in an open-plan Airbnb in Toronto in 2019 – the new single and upcoming EP follow Her Songs’ previously released ‘Toronto Vol. 1’ EP, and 2018’s ‘Los Angeles’ EP.

RVDICAL THE KID LINKS UP WITH AMAARAE FOR NEW SINGLE ‘NASA’, ANNOUNCES SOPHOMORE EP ‘LITTLE PLANET’

With over two million streams under his belt, critical acclaim and support from the likes of Pigeons & Planes, FACT Magazine, Soulection, Indieshuffle, BandCamp and The Native Magazine, as well as recent production credits for rising stars such as Amaarae, Tems, Maesu, and Nonso Amadi, Beninois-Ghanaian producer, DJ and artist RVDICAL THE KID has unveiled his long-awaited Carte Blanche follow-up and highly anticipated sophomore project titled Little Planet.

To be released via Platoon this Friday (14th August), Rvdical’s Little Planet EP is backed by his new single ‘Nasa’, which features Ghanaian songstress and producer AMAARAE, who has been having a breakthrough year of her own, with recent support from Apple Music, The FADER, NPR and Hypebeast, among others. ‘Nasa’ marks the fourth joint effort from the two frequent collaborators Rvdical and Amaarae, who have been working together since 2017.

Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Nasa’, Rvdical The Kid says: “It is a fun record I made with nothing particular in mind other than the pursuit of the exhilarating feeling of creating. The process of creating the record almost felt like an acid trip, flowing through synths, drums and foley that carefully landed me on a very ethereal and spacey and beat. My love for contrast and juxtaposition informed the almost obnoxious pitch screwed bass that drives the entire record”.

Dwayne Patrick Offers Inspiration In Latest Single, ‘Keep Up’ Ft. Naye

Award winning producer DWAYNE PATRICK started producing music at the tender age of 16, and after developing his craft, he quickly forged a name as a prolific producer, bagging an impressive list of credits on tracks with Ghetts, Wretch 32, Swiss (So Solid), Paigey Cakey and Kele Le Roc.

After joining JOAT Music Group (known for launching J Hus’ career) and singing a publishing deal with the UK arm of the influential Peer Music, 2020 sees the young beat-master step out as an artist in his own right to release music with no compromises. He announces this move with his first single as a solo artist ‘Keep Up.’

This R&B-chill track features vocalist Naye, who has added a shimmeringly wavy vocal to the track and beat, written and produced by Patrick, who sits a range of contemporary sounds from RnB strings, rimshots and synth lines on top of a banging bottom end. Lyrically, ‘Keep Up’ acts as a positive message and reminder to the listener to keep grinding and to always look forward, never back. Patrick adds: “I want to create music that people can have great experiences with while listening. I think we achieved that with this one.”

The multi-talented London-based producer also scores music for film and Theatre – his musical theatre debut ‘LOVE THY FRO’ at Theatre Peckham in 2018 was a sold out run and returned to the box office the following year with more shows. He has also composed music for UK feature film ‘Brash Young Turks’ (from award winning director Naeem Mahmood – producer of two Star Wars films), and more recently produced two tracks on Swiss’ (So Solid) new album ‘Isolation & Muziq’ (released April 2020).

Outside of music, Dwayne Patrick is also CEO of the hugely successful ‘I CAN Project’, a community based project which deliver Self Development Programmes for young people. He has welcomed Rita Ora into the studio and also received a royal visit from Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, who commended the value of the I CAN Project.
