Song of the Day: Get It Right – Phebe Edwards (ft. Mark Asari)

North London soul singer, PHEBE EDWARDS dominates today’s hotspot and delivers her latest single ‘Get It Right’, featuring The Voice’s Mark Asari. Produced by Luke ‘G Kid’ Grant, ‘Get It Right’, explores whether trust can be reinstalled in a relationship, accompanied with an infectious R&B vibe, reminiscent of the 90s  – think SWV, TLC and Aaliyah.

‘Get It Right’ is the follow-up single to ‘Space’ featuring Cameron Bloomfield, released last year. The single was supported by Music Musings and Such, Lock Magazine, The Music Site and Hype Magazine. The incredible Syleena Johnson featured ‘Space’ on her Spotify playlist as one of her ’Chill favs’.

Phebe is currently working on her long-awaited headline London show. For more details, take a trip to her website.

New Music Video: More – Lenny Harold

Taken from his recently released and critically acclaimed sophomore album ‘Cosmic’, which was released in September last year to rave reviews, Teddy Riley protégé, former Blackstreet member, and New Jersey R&B singer/songwriter LENNY HAROLD is excited to kickstart 2019 with the release of his highly anticipated music video for fan-favourite Cosmic album track ‘More’.

Produced by three-time Grammy Award nominee Armando ‘Mandobeats’ Colon, who has previously worked with the likes of Shaggy, Busta Rhymes, Lil Kim, Cam’ron and Fat Joe, with live bass and guitar arrangements from Ralph B. Stacy (Luther Vandross, SWV, Dru Hill), ‘More’ stands out as a timeless R&B slow jam, which is held together by LENNY HAROLD’s striking tenor and smooth vibrato, and honest and relatable songwriting about wanting more for and from a love interest.

The accompanied visuals see the smooth crooner collaborating with fast-rising cinematographer and photographer Richard ‘Parlay’ Copier of OneiPhotography, to create a storytelling masterpiece, which not only brings the record, which is already hailed a timeless R&B offering all by itself, further to life, but tells its own story of a woman stuck between trying to leave a life of pain and abuse behind, and the fear of leaping into the unknown with someone new.

Counting the likes of Quincy Jones, Marsha Ambrosius and Jamie Fox as fans, and with three critically acclaimed R&B projects already under his belt, before he released last year’s well received ‘Cosmic’ album, LENNY HAROLD is coming into 2019 as one of the best pure R&B talents out of America today. The rest of the year will see the New Jersey native embark on a short run ‘Cosmic’ tour across the US, along with the release of more visuals from the album, starting with ‘Heat’ in February.

Mixtape Review: I Just Wanna Be Heard Vol.2 – Kwame Katana

Kwane Katana

Now I’m going to be real honest here…when I first clapped my eyes on the album cover, I did a massive internal eye roll, thinking it’s just another rapper wanting some sweet booty and all the cars and gold in the world. But it was my duty, as an independent music writer, to give it a trial…

…So I pressed play and I had to shut my month. As I listen to the mixtape, I quickly realise KWAME KATANA is just a young guy who is going through some personal struggles as well as finding his way to be a successful rapper.

The lyrics of hurt, love and sheer determination, is perfectly complemented by out-of-this world bassline that make you sit up and take note (I mean REALLY take note). The 20-track production gets better with on-point samples from mainly 90s R&B class acts such as SWV, JOHNNY GILL, LAURYN HILL and JADE.

Well after listening to I Just Wanna Be Heard, I (re)learned a valuable lesson…never judge a book (or in this case a mixtape) by its cover.

Listen to I Just Wanna Be Hard Vol.2 mixtape right here.
