Mixtape Review: Bixby Beach – Nayla Savannah

I’ve known NAYLA SAVANNAH since starting this blog and it wasn’t until a couple of months ago that this young rapper has resurfaced and dropped her trip-hop number ‘Dial’. I’m soooo glad that she’s still on the scene as I hate to see such talent go to waste.

Cementing her comeback to the scene, Nayla recently dropped her mixtape, ‘Bixby Beach’ which carries on the chilled out theme from her previous efforts, ‘Pretend’ (A MUST LISTEN) and ‘Cruisin’ – a theme that gives the mixtape a perfect introduction through the appropriately named ‘Welcome’.

There were times that a boisterous bassline makes its presence known in the ten piece set through tracks, ‘Forest’ and ‘Thank You’, adding some real satisfying meat to the featherly soundscapes.

Above all what pleases me the most about this mixtape is Nayla’s effortlessly blasé flow. Check her out below:

Song of the Day: Hideaway – Ben Brown (ft. Ehmji)

After spending almost a year in the US, working with Baltimore producer beatsbysteev, singer/songwriter BEN BROWN has slammed down a one hell of melodic hip-hop/R&B joint entitled ‘Hideaway. Featuring the smooth flow of rapper Ehmji, ‘Hideaway’ is taken from his latest EP, ‘410 Interlude.’

Compared to the likes of James Vickery, Tom Misch, and Zak Abel, the North Londoner gained traction in the UK scene last year, playing at Sundown Festival and opening the main stage at Mutiny Festival, following his ‘No Words’ tour which saw the artist deliver his energetic performance style at headline shows throughout the UK in support of his new single – his third consecutive one to reach the top 15 in the iTunes singer-songwriter charts.

This one’s too good to miss….check out the fire production below:

New Track: Properly – Nizzy

Serving as the lead single for his forthcoming sophomore EP, which is due for release this summer, ‘Properly’ comes off the back of NIZZY’s last single ‘Rice & Peas’ and his critically acclaimed debut EP ‘Dreamin’ In Colour’.

The SynX-produced track, displays infectiously soothing Afrobeats, with hazy influences of Dancehall and R&B.

NIZZY‘s smooth naija-fused sound has already caught the attention from the likes of  BBC 1Xtra, Red Bull Music, Capital Xtra, MTV Base, GRM Daily, Link Up TV, The Beat London, GRM Daily, Link Up TV and Earmilk, among others.

Check out the lush video for ‘Properly’ below, directed by Q (Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy):
