Song of the Day: Green Porcelain – Rebecca Phillips

REBECCA PHILLIPS makes her entry on the blog’s top spot with latest offering ‘Green Porcelain’.

The R&B Experimentalist delicately lay her rich vocals over a glitchy, electronic soundscape that lures you right into her world.

On the release, Rebecca says: “Green Porcelain may be beautiful to look at but it’s a cold material and can shatter easily. Ultimately the track explores fragility framed through multiple guises and visual metaphors, mostly in the form of physical materials and textures. It could be asking the listener: can you enjoy a connection when it’s striking appearance leaves you emotionally distant?”

The North Londoner’s debut ‘Burnt Peach’ received praise from the likes of i-D, CLASH, Resident Advisor to name a few – as well as receiving radio play from BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Jamz Supernova.

Click play on ‘Green Porcelain’…and if you like what you hear, look out for the Addison Groove Remix and Official Video before the end of the year.

New Track: Stories – Dear Pressure

Made on separate computers and in separate dorm rooms over the course of a year, Matt Kahane and Quin Kiu – aka DEAR PRESSURE–  have completed a piece on the other side of finishing college.

That piece comes in the shape of ‘Stories’ which boasts melodically sweet overtones, accompanied by a soulful (Tom Misch style) b-line. The three-minute smoothie represents the next big chapter in the Toronto duo’s life as they leave college life behind, wondering what’s in store for the future.

Why not check out ‘Stories’ below…and if you like what you hear, be sure to look out for this pair as they plan to release their debut EP next year. The project will follow the same theme as the current offering…only a little darker and more cynical…

Song of the Day: Blinding – J Appiah (ft. Ruby Wood)

East London singer/songwriter J APPIAH, drops his latest single, ‘Blinding’ which gives is a frank examination of the musician’s interior anxieties with his developing career.

The record also acts as a cautionary tale and a creative expression of the mental labyrinths an artist passes through just trying to stay human in an industry that peddles idols and products. Reflecting his apprehension, ‘Blinding’ fuses a trace of Hip-Hop, shades of blues and gospel emanating from his soulful vocal delivery, beautifully assisted by Submotion Orchestra’s Ruby Wood.

Further explaining his inspiration behind his latest offering’, J APPIAH says, “‘Blinding’ is about my desire to be well-known as an artist but also my apprehension with regards to the pitfalls of it. It’s about people judging you for who they think you are before they’ve even met you. It’s also about being seduced by the idea of popularity. I think today there are many ways you can become well-known, everyone seems to want their 15 minutes of fame”.

The Hackney native has received strong support from the likes of BBC 1Xtra, 4 Music, Complex, BBC 6 Music, Clash Magazine, MTV Base, Dummy Magazine and The Line of Best Fit recently, while his last project ‘Travelight’ garnered rave reviews and strong acclaim from fans and the industry alike, and it’s anyone’s guess where this inimitable new artist will go next.
