Song of the Day: Replay – Nova

Just over a year after his seminal third studio project titled S.T.A.Y (Still Think About You), which garnered over 100,000 streams and was supported by the likes of MTV, OkayAfrica and TRACE Urban, Toronto-based/ Nigerian Ghanaian artist NOVA want to run it back with the surprise announcement that he will be releasing a sequel to S.T.A.Y aptly titled S.T.A.Y II on 20th  November. The announcement comes with an exciting new track ‘Replay’, which will serve as the lead single for his upcoming S.T.A.Y II project.

Produced by Doozybeatz, ‘Replay’ sees Nova switching from rapping to singing and back to rapping to represent the rollercoaster of emotions behind the track, as he laments trying to come to terms with a failed relationship, while also holding onto any hopes that his girl would come back to him. Throughout the track, Nova shows his vulnerability both sonically and lyrically, perhaps more than he has done on previous records, giving a taste of what to expect from S.T.A.Y II….

Song of the Day: Problem, Reaction, Solution – Fliptrix

2020 is a year that will go down in the history books… but unfortunately for all the wrong reasons.

Throughout his new single ‘Problem, Reaction, Solution’ FLIPTRIX touches on this and tackles the world’s current situation head-on. With a no holds barred viewpoint, he spits his thoughts on what we’ve been going through, the way it’s been handled and expresses his concerns for the future.

Produced by one of the scenes most respected producers, Illinformed lays down a contrasting buoyant baseline against an uptempo beat.

‘Problem, Reaction, Solution’ is taken from album, ‘Light Work’, out now on Fliptrix’s label, High Focus Records. The 16-track project – which is a representation of him as both an artist as well as reflecting the person behind the artistry – pays homage to his fallen friend and legendary London graffiti artist ‘POW’ through track ‘Powerizm’. ‘Light Work’ also features Fliptrix’s recently released single, ‘Holy Kush’ which clocked over 100k views on Youtube in a week and conveys a message about overcoming the fear of death and persevering with the work he has put into the scene.

Song of the Day: No Speaking – Juice Menace

Continuing to make serious waves whilst only a few singles deep, Cardiff-hailing rapper JUICE MENACE unveils her latest track ‘No Speaking’.

With a self-assured and assertive 2020 so far that’s seen an impressive run of singles, the young rapper ups the ante once again on this up-tempo, quintessentially drill production. Complete with all the bass, bounce and flex, Juice shows off her rap dexterity, delivering sharp lyricism, mean flow and an unwavering aggressiveness as she is boastful about being about her business.

Involved in multiple aspects of her craft, Juice developed the treatment of the video herself and ‘No Speaking’ positions her not only as a talented creative but also a leader of an artist with the confidence and demeanour to reach the upper echelons.

Listen To Terreur Nocturne’s New Joint ‘Nécropole’ ft. OstiOne

New single from the group with the legendary OstiOne from the K6A collective as guest. Big dark beat with a trap flavor and obscure poetry raising a morbid cynicism specific to this deeply Phonk project.

TERREUR NOCTURNE is a Quebec rap duo made up of Mc Phylis (Mc Phylis and Maxime Robin, Arvida Crew) and BeatMaker-rapper Max T (Trunk 25, Token of Hate).

The project aims to be a spiritual hip-hop journey in which the two rappers exhibit a deep sense of cynicism, disgust and revenge without ever taking themselves seriously. It’s not Horror Core, nor Trap strictly speaking, it’s just rap made by two disillusioned thirty-something and a little bored of making art to entertain the plebs. All highlighted against a trap-vintage sound background: 90’s south rap, brag rap, vintage sampling, horror, old school video games, dragon dungeon, mysticism.

For the real music lovers, it’s good québ rap more nested, more underground which puts more on the tech, the flow and the darks beats.
