New Track: Loving That – Matti Roots

MATTI ROOTS’ extensive musical background and stylish imprint of soul and pop has been sought out by numerous unsigned and signed artists, such as Dua Lipa, Paigey Cakey, July Jones, Age of Luna, Shae and Jaguar Skills.

Causing a stir in the music world in 2015, he teamed up with Jaguar Skills and Chords to release an energetic reworking of his funk fuelled gem, ‘Lust’. The track came out on RAM Records and was premiered by Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1 and hit #1 in the Drum & Bass charts. This later followed with the release of his last album, ‘Beatroot’ in 2016. The lead track ‘Let’s get back Together’ found it’s way onto Spotify’s Viral Chart, reaching 500,000 plays.

Now with the release of his new single ‘Loving That’, MATTI ROOTS bonds his love for soul, funk, trap and R&B in a sensual mix. A loose arrangement of slick house bass hooks and light hip-hop beats, the track has an instant feel good catchiness that Matti is becoming quickly known for. Matti has been constantly making new music and after recently teaming up with Kwame Kwaten’s Ferocious label, he’s now set to release an exciting collection of works, he’s been working on the last few years.

Album Review: The Introduction – Zoe and Zara

Since appearing on NEW LEASE MUSIC with their single ‘Get Up Now’ last January, my mind would sometimes wonder on the whereabouts of twin sisters ZOE & ZARA. A few week ago, my curiosity was quashed when received an email from the duo.

After five years on London’s music scene, the pair decided to start a new chapter on their journey. So after much deliberation, long hours in the studio (which came with tears and near-breakdowns – their words, not mine!) ZOE & ZARA now present their debut album, ‘The Introduction.’

Recorded at The Blue Studio in Dalston (my hometown!), ‘The Introduction’  displays a delightful journey of Jazz (modern and from the golden era), old school soul and neo soul alternating between the down right funky and the ambient/easy listening.

The flood of tears and near breakdowns definitely paid off –  their neo-soul signature is more rich and refined (compared to their previous releases). The sisters’ venture into other genres by far didn’t disappoint. Their soothing vocals in fourth effort ‘Hey Sir’ were well suited to the golden jazz/big band/rat pack combo.

After reading the review, I think you guys know how I feel about this album. All there’s left say is – ZOE & ZARA, I salute you!

Song of the Day: The Deep End – Opãru

Following the success of debut single, ‘Remember Me’ – named Song of Week by NEW LEASE MUSIC last December – OPÃRU returns with another stunning single, ‘The Deep End.’

The Deep End’ is a love song to her beloved and admires the strengths and the flaws in a relationship, but most importantly it focuses on the depth of what most humans attempt to obtain in their lifetime. This release sees the singer-songwriter and actress whose real name is Dianna St. Hilaire – exchange the classical music element, from her previous single, for a guitar drench/pop affair.

The video for ‘The Deep End’ encompasses the beautiful aspects of nature, blending them with an urban landscape. Featuring stunning time-lapsed visuals of nature at it’s finest, the hustle and bustle of a city at night and a brilliant night of dancing lights, the video highlights the importance of finding compassion for living things and being mindful of your inner animal.

In late 2015, St. Hilaire reinvented  herself as OPÃRU, deriving from the Japanese name of the birthstone opal. OPÃRU‘s roots stem from experimental electronic, 80s synth pop, and alternative rock.

Song of the Day: Control – Full Crate x Mar

Soulful Dutch duo FULL CRATE X MAR claims today’s hotspot with their latest single ‘Control’, taken from the highly anticipated collaborative EP ‘A Woman’, released earlier this month.

The mysteriously soulful single, featuring iLL BLU, offers a taster of the new FULL CRATE X MAR EP, also including previous effort, ‘Gorgeous’.

The EP follows previous collaborative releases of Full Crate and Mar, including ‘Nobody Else’, ‘Man x Woman’ and ‘Conversations with Her’.

The ‘A Woman’ EP is now available on Apple Music and Spotify.

Song of the Day: Closer – IIDimensionz

II DIMENSIONZ stolen today’s hotspot with debut single ‘Closer’ taken from their upcoming debut EP ‘Love From Above’ out this month.

Featuring special guest vocals from Mark Asari and rapper Nick Brewer (Island Records) ‘Closer’ is a smooth slice of soulful R&B with plenty of old school vibes including a big nod to Rosie Gaines classic ‘Closer than Close’.

Whilst inviting special guests in for vocals all song writing, instrumentation and production is done by the boys themselves, and they’re keen to keep control of all aspects of creativity, something they’ve learned from their dads – who were both in the music business.

II DIMENSIONZ are cousins Nathan and Jermaine Williams, born and raised in East London. Their dads played with the likes of Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Chaka Khan and LL Cool, so the boys were brought up with music in their blood. “We were taken to watch band rehearsals and gigs and sharing the excitement of watching our fathers perform live was a huge inspiration. It laid the foundations to our own musical journey.”

Debut 4-track EP ‘Love From Above’ is described by the duo as a modern-day take on classic 80’s soul with 90’s R&B. Alongside the single, ‘Closer’ the EP also includes the tracks ‘Waiting Room,’ ‘Coming Together’ and a deep house edit of ‘Closer.’

Check out the live performance of the single.
