Classified Share Emotive Single, ‘Accept It (Retrospected) + Video

Hip hop artist, songwriter and producer Luke Boyd – better known as CLASSIFIELD – shares his latest acoustic single and video for ‘Accept It’ (Retrospected) featuring Brett Matthews, the third release from the anticipated RETROSPECTED, his forthcoming hip hop acoustic album due out later this spring.

Directed by The Boyd Brothers, the video for ‘Accept It’ (Retrospected) unveils a real-life account of some of the everyday hard ships, experiences, and losses one may encounter in life. The narrative (penned by Classified) explains that while it’s an understatement to say that dealing with grief or loss is painful, there comes a time that we must ‘accept it’ and with a little effort, try to move on in life.

About the song, Classified shares, “This is a song I wrote after watching friends go through similar situations in real life. I think we all know someone that has lost a loved one to cancer and we’ve seen how that loss affects the friends and family around them in a variety of ways. At some point in life, we realize that we will mourn the loss of a loved one, which is a painful experience, but we know that we must ‘accept it’ and find a way to keep on living for those that are still here and for ourselves.”

In the video I really wanted to portray that sentiment in the first verse. And, in the second verse, I speak about men and women who have had to go away to fight wars and defend our country, and then return home and have difficulty dealing with life after war – where often the small everyday life problems don’t compare to the things they have witnessed and gone through. It can’t be easy, and I wanted to capture those feelings in this video.”

Mychelle Join Forces With Enny For New Single, ‘Forbidden Fruit’

Hackney-born singer, songwriter and guitarist MYCHELLE has unveiled her new track ‘Forbidden Fruit’ featuring ENNY. The latest single from her upcoming EP ‘Someone Who Knows’ which is set for release on 20th May.

Markedly more buoyant and rhythmic than Mychelle’s previous releases, ‘Forbidden Fruit’ is a rootsy yet bass-driven track. Sonically recalling the work of neo-soul songstresses India Arie, Tweet and Vivian Green, the track emits the ambience and mood of a peaceful summer afternoon.

Lyrically, the song details the moral dilemmas that arise when one falls for someone they know isn’t good for them and the complicated feelings that consequently rise to the surface.

Lending guest vocals to the track is fellow FAMM label-mate ENNY who adorns the song with a majestic rap verse. The newest addition in ENNY’s recent string of features, following her freshly-released collaborations with Shae Universe, Odeal and Boj. The resulting collaboration is a perfect marriage of Mychelle’s acoustic soul sensibilities and ENNY’s supreme rap stylings.

Directed by Portia Barnett-Herrin, the video follows Mychelle as she’s strolling through a park late at night where she is curiously enticed by a strange light that leads her to an alternative universe.

Soon she’s face to face with a version of herself she doesn’t recognise, engaging in a high-stake game of chess before completely disappearing. The video’s narrative is further complemented by visually rich collage sequences placing an emphasis on the sensory draw of fruits and flowers.

The new single comes after the release of her previous single, ‘Younger Self’ – the lead single of her forthcoming sophomore EP ‘Someone Who Knows’, which will coincide with her first ever headline show at The Lexington on 31st May.

Song of the Day: Out of my Mind – Kyle Trippy

‘Out Of My Mind’ gives a taste of Detroit rapper KYLE TRIPPY‘s forthcoming project, which is expected soon, and arrives with accompanying self-directed visuals. The video uncovers the first part in this three-part story of a toxic relationship following previous videos ‘No Attachment’ (part 2) and ‘Restless’ (part 3). Showcasing Kyle’s broad repertoire of talents, the self-produced track highlights his silky smooth vocals, impressive storytelling abilities and his accomplished production skills, with Kyle opting for a mellow and dreamy R&B soundscape that will no doubt draw listeners in instantly.

Speaking further on the new release, Kyle says, “‘Out Of My Mind’ is about a toxic relationship. It’s a take on the darker side of what happens when the other person isn’t around and what it does to you over time. At the time of making the track, I had a makeshift studio in my room. I made the beat and wrote the verse as I made it. I recorded all the vocals and listened to it probably like a thousand times. I made a couple of variations of the track as well but ended up going with the original.”

Song of the Day: Celestial Body – Maidin

MAIDIN presents her debut single, ‘Celestial Body’, which showcases her impassioned vocals soaring over melancholic acoustic guitars, echoing harmonies, and velvety-laced soundscapes that gently seduce and envelop the listener for an immersive and heart-wrenching experience.

‘Celestial Body’ details a love that’s just out of reach and a longing to be with someone that you ultimately can’t have. Maidin confides, “the first idea for ‘Celestial Body’ came to me on a beach in July, when the moon was out in the middle of the day. It’s a really unsettling thing to see, as I’m sure most people know. I started thinking of the image of a “celestial body” to represent somebody who I would’ve liked to be close with, but this person was keeping me at a distance. A celestial body is something beautiful, that you can admire and love from far away, but you can’t ever reach. Melodically and musically, the song seemed to come out of thin air.”

Drawing influences from the likes of songwriting powerhouses Joni Mitchell and Dolly Parton, along with experimental pop musicians St. Vincent and Sylvan Esso, Maidin aims to create music that captures the vivid storytelling of folk music with a fresh and modern alternative pop sound. Her upcoming releases detail coming-of-age relationships and all the relatable emotions that go hand-in-hand with experiencing love, loss, yearning, and grief.
