South African Sensation Langa Mavuso Shares New Single, ‘Panther’

With his previous single ‘Love Lost’ garnering rave reviews and acclaim in the two months since release, building on recent support for the rising star from the likes of GQ, Pete Tong (BBC Radio 1), Red Bull Music, ELLE South Africa, and Deezer – where he was recently named their ‘Next
Artist of 2020’ – South African singer, songwriter and musician LANGA MAVUSO is back with a brand new single titled ‘Panther’ as he continues to tease his highly anticipated self-titled debut
album titled Langa’, which is scheduled for release on September 25 via Platoon.

Crafted with production duo Noble, who recently collaborated with Beyoncé on her seminal
Grammy Award-winning album ‘The Lion King: The Gift’, ‘Panther’ is a smooth and soulful offering with lush R&B sensibilities and expansive soundscapes that will transport listeners on a late summer evening ride. The infectious slow jam sees Langa pour his heart out about searching for healing in all the wrong places, while highlighting his glorious vocals and exquisite falsetto tones, as well as his penchant for captivating storytelling and vivid songwriting.

Speaking about the inspiration behind his new single ‘Panther’, Langa says, “The song was
inspired by a tumultuous time in my life where I had surrounded myself with many distractions to
try and get over the pain and heartbreak of a difficult breakup, it captures how exhausting it
became to pretend that things were alright with me after this relationship ended. It talks about the many distractions we use to run away from our emotions, whether it’s flashy cars and bottles of champagne to heal the pain, or seeking light in dark places”.

A graduate of the National School of Arts, Rhodes University and the South African College of
Music, where he honed his singing skills, vocal abilities and performance prowess, among other
things, Johannesburg native Langa Mavuso burst onto the scene in South Africa with his critically acclaimed debut EP ‘Liminal Sketches’ with Black Coffee’s Soulistic record label, before breaking out to become a star in his own right, buoyed by such fan-favourite and cult classic singles as‘Home’, ‘Sunday Blues’, and last year’s ‘Mvula’.

With his new single ‘Panther’ and upcoming self-titled album, Langa is excited to share his coming of age story with the world…Check it out below…

Song of the Day: My Bad – Tame Kyel (ft. Ta’Shan)

After a year of unrest and breaking barriers society has built up for hundreds of years, TAME KYEL dives head first into chaos and shows how he can not only lyrically impress but also showcase his vocal ability in his single, ‘My Bad’.

The first release under his own label, The Boat Records, ‘My Bad’ features Ta’Shan the Swiss-Indian singer also known as Bombay Mami. Both artists have been working together behind the scenes for many years crafting hit singles such as ‘This Time’, ‘This Time’ Remix ft Konshens and ‘High’ so a collaboration as artists is well overdue.

‘My Bad’ shows Tame maturing musically, in his own words – ‘Right now the world feels separated, emotion is something that unifies us and makes us human. Even though the message may feel sad and sombre the song is presented in a way that allows people to sing and dance together’.

Tame Kyel will continue creating music behind the board as a writer as well as showing the world how diverse he can be as an artist…check out the single below…

EP Review: Bad – Ricco Barrino

When I came across RICCO BARRINO‘s EP, ‘Bad’, I had to sit up, take note and give it a trial. If the surname brings a bell, well this R&B powerhouse is the older brother of Americana Idol winner, Fantasia Barrino and although he appeared on her single, ‘Bore Me (Yawn)’, he’s definitely a star on his own right.

Ricco has consistently been in and out of the spotlight since the early 2000s, lending his vocals to T.I.’s chart-topping single, ‘Whatever You Like’ and Colonel Loud’s hit ‘California’. A former signee of T.I.’s Grand Hustle label, Ricco has been hard at work on new music since his peak in 2015, landing records with Blacc Zacc, Da Baby, and other A-listers.

Ricco has now released a collection of these records, including those that were previously unreleased, across a series of new EPs via Common Cents/EMPIRE. Serving as a follow-up to ‘Good’ EP, released earlier this month, ‘Bad’ EP, the second installment in the series, which contains the new catchy single ‘Quavo’ as well as other previously unreleased music.

Roaring guitar riffs introduces the five piece set with track, ‘Give It To You’, leading to an uptempo summery drive, working in perfect harmony with Ricco’s robustly soulful vocals…and that vocal performance is turned up a notch or two through second funked-up, soulful effort ‘Fire’.

Changing the tone of the project, comes ‘Nothing I Would Not Do’, which brings in an intimate setting of vibrantly airy vibes later joined by rhythmic claps…and of course that vocals provided by Ricco, where he delicately shows off his falsetto range.

Flaring up to an emotional state, Ricco’s voice takes centre stage in the final atmospheric track, ‘Pray For Me’, which is guaranteed to leave any prospective listener quenching for more…

It’s a good job there’s more as BAD EP, will be quickly followed by Ricco’s third and final installment – Ugly EP – coming out 3rd September – now, that’s going to be pure FIRE! Pre-save your copy here:
