EP Review: Igbotic – Ike Chuks

One of UK’s hottest talents, IKE CHUKS‘ new EP, ‘Igbotic’ sees him slamming down a laid-back smooth flow delivered in English as well as Pidgin and Igbo.

The first half the collection delivers a gutsy warmth of Afro-Swing tribal-esque bass, featured in ‘What Happened To Kate’ and ‘Ego’. Influences of UK urban/hip-hop creeps in, creating a seamless fusion with the beats originated from the Motherland, as featured in the wavy joint, ‘Money’ and ‘Fire’

Song of the Day: Don’t Know Why – Josh Kumra

Co-written with songwriter Raevennan Husbandes, who is known for her collaborations with artists including Kathryn Williams, Lisa Hannigan and Michele Stodard, JOSH KUMRA’s single, ‘Don’t Know Why’, showcases the melancholic piano contrasted by Raevennan’s fluid  guitar plucks. Josh’s thoughtful lyrics and intimate soulful vocals create another soaring cut to add to his collection of heart-wrench songs featured in new EP ‘Pull Me Back In’.

Talking about the songwriting process behind the song, Josh says: “I’ve always had a need to understand why things turn out the way they do. Always trying to figure out what went right, what went wrong, could I have done something different etc. I wrote ‘Don’t Know Why’ as a reminder that it’s ok not to have an explanation for everything”.

Song of the Day: Dive – Louis La Roche

Brett Ewels, otherwise known as DJ LOUIS LA ROCHE, takes his inspiration from the likes of The Weeknd, Dimitri From Paris and Michael Jackson to present single, ‘Dive (ft. HEDDIE)’. The single forms part of his collaborative album, ‘Saturday Night Griever’ out now via Ever After Records.

Released late last month, the album boasts different genres with reverence – bouncing from nu-disco and French house, to modern electronic pop. ‘Dive’ encompasses everything 80’s while acknowledging the sins of the contemporary. Spotlighting sensual lyrics and pairing them with cascading soundscapes, this track is tipped to be an instant favourite among ravers.

La Roche has previously provided official remixes for artists such as Basement Jaxx, Aeroplane, Lemaitre, Fred Falke and BAYNK and received support from tastemaker Youtube channels Spinnin Records, Mr Suicide Sheep, Majestic Casual, and Mr Deep Sense and publications such as Mixmag, DJ Mag, Your EDM, Magnetic Mag and Data Transmission. The British talent has received over 40 Million YouTube views, with his remix for Crystal Bats receiving over 1.8 Million views alone, and over 23 Million plays on Spotify. Louis La Roche has also supported Kylie Minogue on her Kiss Me Once tour.

Rising Psychedelic Pop Artist Drew Makes Noise Shares ‘Satellite’ Video

UK born/Belfast-based musician DREW MAKES NOISE shares the DIY Supermarionation music video for ‘Satellite’.

Blending humour with cynicism, the video depicts an overworked office employee, stuck in a monotonous life and daydreaming about space adventures. Pairing imagination with escapism, alien overlords and references to interdimensional space spiders are sprinkled throughout the video. The scatterbrained fun melodies of pop and dance music manage to balance out the erratic aspects of the footage, providing a smooth and well-conceptualised production.

Revealing the intensity that went into creating the music video, Drew Makes Noise says: “This was full-on DIY. I disappeared for 4 full months to build a model world for characters and space ships to live in. The bearded character was loosely meant to be me but as time went on I felt like he actually “was” me and I, him and that I was living in a movie within a movie. I was going through my own hero’s journey to do something I have never done before. The scene with the live-action sawing and working in the shed was like method acting, as that’s what my life was like making the video. Life was imitating art and I lost my mind a little. After each scene was filmed I actually did some minor grieving as each time I thought a little person or thing I had created had died and left me. Now I know why actors and directors go crazy!”

Becky Bowe Share Video For Single ‘Don’t Darken My Door’

UK singer-songwriter BECKY BOWE has shared the colourful music video for ‘Don’t Darken My Door’ via Two Bridge Recordings.

Opening with bright shades of blue and silver, the music video for ‘Don’t Darken My Door’ provides a stark contrast to the sombre lyrics. Featuring the organic guitar chords and Becky’s warm, controlled vocals segueing into the mix laden with emotion and soul, the music video maintains a perfect balance between heartbreak and conviction.

Speaking of the music video, Becky Bowe says: “My idea for the video was to have the balloons representing thoughts and feelings about this said relationship and for me to release them by cutting them loose, letting them go and popping them so by the end I become free from the cloud over my head. I wanted to keep in with the light blue theme as I think it really compliments the chilled vibe of the song. The video would have never been what it was without the help of Declan Creffield who was the director, Milly Hewitt as set designer and Dana Cole for make up.”
