EP Review: Echo – Turya

TURYA‘s latest EP ‘Echo’ is immediately compelling thanks to the acoustic and intimate setting which, at times, is accompanied with a bed of airy electronic and folklore soundscapes, featured in title track, ‘Echo’, ‘Magical Moments’ and remixed version of her well-received 2017 single, ‘Rain’.

However what makes this South London singer/songwriter so intriguing and captivating is her stellar vocal performance in third effort, ‘There Will Be A Place’, which heavily draws influence from, what I believe it to be, the technique of Hindustani singing.

It’s great to see TURYA back on full form by pushing her Hindu beliefs/bohemian influences further into the forefront. To be honest, I didn’t think she could top her previous EP, ‘Ocean’ – but hands up, I was soooo wrong, because this mini collection is something else.

New Track: Prayers For Life – Ironik (ft. K Koke)

Producer, DJ and Rapper, IRONIK links up with one of the UK’s biggest Rap exports, K Koke for new single ‘Prayers For Life’.

The collaboration comes as no surprise as IRONIK has been dropping impressive music featuring the cream of UK talent throughout his career including records with Skepta, Chip, Wiley, Wretch 32 and most recently with JME, Fekky and even went Stateside with Snoop Dogg for 2017 release ‘Tuff’.

Produced by Lizzy Beats, ‘Prayers For Life’ is an honest lyrical insight to both rappers journeys. With a retrospective narrative, the pair delve into the blessings, mistakes and hardships that they’ve encountered and how it’s shaped them and their lives. With the sleek visuals set in a church, the cutaways to balaclava clad women and dark close ups of onlookers represent the elements of hardship and hope that are explored in the record.

Whilst IRONIK has a lengthy list of musical achievements as an artist that include a number five official chart position, a top five single, a top ten single, a top ten album and over a million record sales, he is also a hugely successful international DJ that has regular stints in clubbing capitals such as Dubai, Japan and all across Europe. His producer credits include tracks for Tinie Tempah, Chip & Wiley

Premiered on Tim Westwood’s Capital Xtra show, ‘Prayers For Life’ is out now on all DSP’s. Check out the video for the track below:

New Music Video: Your Love – Noble Gray

The four-minute production boasts stunning images of negative effect, which reflects the pair’s unflappable love for each other, topped off with the single’s modern take of 90’s afterhours.

Although the London duo have been collaborating for several years, they finally took the leap and released their debut album, ‘Throwback’ last month after working hard on the project over the last two years. The self written/produced album consists of pop-infused melodies paired with synth beats, drawing inspiration from a range of genres – from R&B to Electronica….go and check it out sometime.

Album Review: When Divorce Is Mentioned – Mike Body

MIKE BODY captures those dreaded feelings when a marriage reaches breaking point with latest album, ‘When Divorce Is Mentioned’, released late last month.

The Christian rapper enlisted a lineup of upcoming artists to give different perspectives and stages of a marriage heading fast to the D-word, over the arrangements of trance like tones and rampant bass. One of the views included Body giving a heartfelt insight into how children suffer due to lack of stability at home caused by the experience of divorce.

Overall, ‘When Divorce Is Mentioned’ is a full-bodied collection that’s sure to offer some comfort to those who experienced a messy break-up. The theme of the album shows that the hip-hop genre a sincere side.
