Song of the Day: Caesar – Frenzy

Hailing from my neck of the woods – Hackney, baby! – FRENZY comes right through with his first single of 2019 entitled ‘Caesar’, taken from upcoming project ‘Heat of The Moment’.

Produced by Eyes, this new track is nothing short of his trademark – combining a multitude of genres to create a unique and dark hip-hop vibe – which underpins the east London rapper’s matter-of-fact lyricism.

The youngster’s catalogue of music, which reflects his life struggles and seeing close ones locked up or killed in his community, has raised eyebrows from major music tastemakers as well as generating loyal support from BBC 1Xtra DJs Jeremiah Asiamah and Robert Bruce.

Hailed as a local celebrity for his charity work and a mentor for his music to young aspiring artists, FRENZY also runs a workshop called Fast Forward which provides free studio time, production and engineering, which this time has resulted in a compilation titled ‘Fast Forward Vol. 1’.

Check out his first drop of the year below:

EP Review: All In Me – Laolu

LAOLU‘s 2018 single, ‘How To Feel’ has got me fired up enough to look out for her debut  EP, ‘All In Me’…and judging from the strong support she received from BBC 1xtra and The Best Line Fits, it seems that I’m not the only one left hanging for the nine-track set.

Kicking off with a moody introduction through single ‘Buffering’, the EP predominantly delves into the haziness of smooth R&B and soul. Fifth effort, ‘Disconnect’, showcases a flair of the blues, intensifying the spine-tingling sensation presented in the EP. ‘So Right’ momentarily breaks away from the collection’s misty theme by injecting a smooth chirpiness of the Afro/reggae-esque bassline.

Those who admire the musical prowess of artist H.E.R, will definitely warm towards the South-East London songstress, who wants to offer the listener a fresh perspective on traditional R&B/Soul – and she does it perfectly through ‘All In Me’. Check her out below:

New Music Video: Black Sheep – Lorelle Howard

New alt-R&B sensation LORELLE HOWARD makes her entry on NEW LEASE MUSIC with dark visual to her latest single, ‘Black Sheep’.

Shot in just two days, the production features the Brooklyn songbird largely roaming the streets in Paris.

A slamming anthem for those who struggle to stay true to themselves, ‘Black Sheep’ is from her debut EP ‘Seven Phases: Moonscape’, set for release next month.

Song of the Day: Flames – Guss

Three-piece blues/rock outfit, GUSS graces the blog’s hotspot with their single, ‘Flames’, taken from their debut EP ‘Cellar Sessions.’

Since their inception in 2017, the Kentucky rockers are rapidly becoming a staple in the indie-rock scene in their hometown and across the Midwest with their irresistible combo of soul music with a real gritty injection of rock ‘n’ roll, bearing the influences of rock heavyweights, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Hootie and the Blowfish.

So I invite you to have a listen the single ‘Flames’…and if you hear any other influences, why not have your say below!
