Song of the Day: How The Hell You Make A Man? – Scooby Jones

SCOOBY JONES‘ debut single, ‘How The Hell You Make A Man’ stops you in your tracks. It’s like hearing Gnarls Barkley’s ‘Crazy’ or Ben Pearce’s ‘What I Might Do’, Drake’s ‘Passion Fruit’ or some other blissful earworm you just knew was an instant classic able to stand the test of time which you would be playing on repeat for years to come, with no fear of growing tired of it.

Described on the YouTube video in hashtag speak as #Ibiza #Poolside #House you quickly get the vibe we’re heading for, but this does also bare the hallmarks of a deeper, hugely intelligent artist at work. The lyricism and wit of Sleaford Mods comes to mind, and there is that dash of British punk about Scooby’s swagger, but essentially this purest of soul voices able to see with his voice what you’d only imagine Stevie Wonder sees with his inner vision is just a thing to behold, whilst his co-conspirator, producer and multi-instrumentalist Ben Jones (Kelly Rowland, Tinie Tempah, Lalah Hathaway) locks us into a heavy groove.

What’s very exciting is Scooby Jones is just a man. A very talented one, nonetheless who is currently working on a solo album which promises even more. Based in South London and perhaps a tad familiar to some having been around the music ether for the past decade popping up on funk tracks featured on 6 Music and Radio 2 due to his insane vocal abilities and lovable nice guy personality, working behind the scenes as a songwriter with artists such as Swedish House Mafia, Artful Dodger and Chaz Jankel (Ian Dury and The Blockheads) and also touring alongside the likes of Black Eyed Peas, Ice-T, Ed Sheeran and Alexander O’Neal.

A stalwart of the London live music scene since 2008 as curator/host of one of London’s most beloved ‘open mic/jam nights’, where only the best of the best would generally make their way to the stage. Scooby now divides his time between making music and directing music videos, including the video for this momentous debut single ‘How The Hell You Make A Man?’ which is out now with various remixes due for release throughout spring/summer 2021.

Song of the Day: Summer Lovin’ – D’Still

Following the success of his recent UK Garage collaboration ‘Bag Down’, D’STIL returns to his R&B roots with his new single ‘Summer Lovin’.

The Birmingham born singer-songwriter/producer is back doing what he does best with this fun, feel-good love song that marks the beginning of Summer 2020. Reminiscent of late 90s/early noughties R&B, ‘Summer Lovin’ boasts an infectious guitar hook, soulful vocals and playful romantic lyrics. The feel-good vibes don’t stop there as it is accompanied by a heartwarming home-made music video which celebrates the togetherness (albeit in lockdown) we have all felt during the past couple of months. Shot by fans, friends and family during lockdown, the sun-drenched video seems to echo the mood of the nation perfectly as it portrays us Brits who are determined to still enjoy their summer while adhering to social-distancing rules.

With this release, D’Stil hopes to capture the nation’s spirit at a time where mental-resilience, solidarity and the feeling of togetherness have been most needed. Adding some more context to the release, D’Stil explains:

“I’ve been shielding indoors the whole-time during lockdown and the one thing I miss is the feeling of Summer. So, it feels right to be putting out the track I enjoyed writing and recording the most! It’s a Summer tonic with hints of hope, and a warm light at the end of this tunnel we’re all in.”

Since moving to London from Birmingham in 2016, D’Stil has collaborated with various London rappers and singers, with such releases supported by BBC Introducing, BBC London, Rinse FM, RWD, Wordplay and Reprezent. After an exciting 2019 for Red Side Records (which he co-owns), including supporting Artful Dodger, D’Stil set his sets on a highly anticipated second EP to follow his debut, 2019’s ‘By Your Side’.

New Music Video: Lurks At Night – J Fresh (ft. Yus)

The latest record to drop from the well-received ‘Fruit Salad’ album, J FRESH calls in Yus for ‘Lurks At Night’.

With a sharp-looking visual, that dropped on JDZ Media, and a bassline heavy instrumental, Yus sends out a stream of rapid fire and reload bars. The J Fresh production is a shining example of his skills as he sparks off Dizzee’s ‘I Luv U’ mix with a quirky concoction of garage, bassline and a nod to Artful Dodger x Craig David classic, ‘Rewind’.

Making his producer debut in early 2017, J FRESH has shown commendable determination to solidify himself within the scene. The release of his two E.P’s and his album have proved for continuous growth and recognition, seeing his music premiered with the likes of DJ Target at BBC Radio 1Xtra, picked up for BBC Radio 1Xtra’s ‘Introducing’ list and heavily supported across Kiss FM and Capital Xtra.

His ‘Fruit Salad’ album features a host of collaborations and contributions from the likes of DJ Target, Charlie Sloth, DJ Olos, Godsgift, Monkstar, DJ Ironik, Lady Ice, Predz UK, ShaoDow and Serocee making it an action packed, 15 track combo of dynamic production skills and talent.

Mind Kyle Letterman and distant light

KYLE LETTMAN and production duo DISTANT LIGHT have teamed up for a Summer fuelled, Garage hit, Mind, released last week.

Earlier this year, KYLE LETTMAN released his remake of Garage classic, Moving Too Fast. Daring to medal with a classic track, the results were fruitful and singer/songwriter received an incredible response across Radio and Online platforms seeing the record being supported across the BBC, Kiss and Capital networks….and it doesn’t stop there. 2015 has been quite the year for Kyle as he also opened the show at Omarion’s UK headline gig at KOKO helped by some serious online support from Pixie Lott!

Kyle isn’t the only one to have made some serious noise of late as production duo DISTANT LIGHT hit the music landscape last year with their official remix of UK RnB singer Angel’s chart-topping track Wonderful. The garage number quickly got the stamp of approval from leading tastemakers DJ EZ from Kiss 100 and BBC 1Xtra’s DJ Cameo.
