EP Review: Time I Got Goin’ – House Above The Sun

Five-piece act, HOUSE ABOVE THE SUN‘s latest EP, ‘Time I Got Goin,’ carries on their neat theme of upbeat, feather light indie folk/rock/Americana from their 2017 EP, ‘Five Hours North’ (featured through intro single ‘Trains’ and ‘Time I Got Goin) but with a hint of bluesy country soul.

‘Small Town’ and ‘Footsteps’ are probably the best pieces that showcase their new-found sound, where an indie rock/folk combo serves as the perfect backdrop for the twang of that county soul.

In addition to their take on alternative folk/rock music, a retro/grunge-esque fusion presents itself through ‘The Bitter Life of Little Tony Starfish’ which gives the production a hazy and slight sparky feel.

It’s a real delight to see these South Londoners back on track with a range of genres – that I never expected – to their already established sound.

EP Review: Store Run 3 – A1

Two fries and a shake later, A1 bounces back with his third installment of his store run series – ‘Store Run 3′, released on New Year’s day.

Starting off with a sample from Alicia Keys’ hit ‘You Don’t Know My Name’ this mini set continues from the previous store run installments by encompassing a mixture of retro soul, 90s-inspired laid-back soulful R&B with a dash of slum village-esque boombap. The star of the show was the Brookyln’s native rapid-blazing flow ripping through the tranquil bars.

Check out ‘Store Run 3’ HERE and listen to a serious hip-hop contender who’s on a steady rise.

EP Review: Store Run – A1

A1 is that guy to put a crazy-dope spin on today’s hip-hop hits and classics, but for his latest EP, ‘Store Run’, he steps away from all the tunes and bangers that we know, to show us what he’s REALLY made of!

Running through this mini set, is a constant smooth and that old soul sound where this New York emcee slams down heartfelt/magical spark to the laid-back arrangements.

I was waiting for this moment for this guy to step into his own limelight and show me who he really is…and the ‘Store Run’ EP has completely satisfy my curiosity. Will it satisfy yours? Have a listen below…

EP Review: Probably Crying – Girl Wilde

When I first hit the play button on GIRL WILDE‘s latest EP, ‘Probably Crying’, I wasn’t only instantly hit by the explosive combo of electro pop and 90’s inspired grunge rock, but her alluring vocals that could rival the likes of Gwen Stefani.

Don’t get caught up in the fluffy frills with a slight rebellious streak, if you’re planning to listen to this EP. Beyond the fun-packed arrangements, the LA artist bravely taps into her vulnerability and covers personal and deep-rooted subjects such as depression (in ‘I Don’t Wanna Die,’ ‘Probably Crying’), female sexual desire (‘WeT’), and anger management (‘BATSHiT’).

Although the above subjects are often swept under the carpet, the message in this EP is clear and simple: it’s OK to experience those feelings, so embrace them!

‘Probably Crying’ is one pretty neat package – why not check it out below…
