EP Review: The Month Of May – Jackie Moonbather

As spring breaks out, multi-instrumentalist JACKIE MOONBATHER brings in a host of blossoming melodies through his ten track EP appropriately titled ‘The Month of May’.

The EP introduces a hazy glaze which washes over the arrangements fused with jazz, neo soul and old school soul possessing a slight rare groove vibe. Although the featured falsetto – reminiscent of the 70s – took centre stage in most productions, the occasional flash of the near baritone vocals were the star of the show as it adds a unique dimension to Moonbather’s laid-back trademark.

Lovers of neo soul (raphael saadiq style) and jazz/soul legends (perhaps Miles Davis and John Coltrane) will find ‘The Month of May’ a delight; listen to the EP below:

Album Review: Lightheaded II – Dizzy Rambunctious

For his latest project, DIZZY RAMBUNCTIOUS braves it out and goes on a turbulent journey of dealing with a heartache from a relationship.

Starting off with melancholic tones, reflecting the first stages of a break-up, ‘Lightheaded II’ offers glimmer of light with an upbeat offering through ‘Heartbreak’, possessing the raciness of guitar plucks with along the EDM-ish drive.

With the tempo tuned down a notch or two, the second half of the album is free of the moody presence of the dense bassline and makes way for those carefree moments which is conveyed through a chirpy, modern take of boombap and a rather flirtatious jazz/soul combo (we’re talking Al Jarreau style).

Through ‘Lightheaded II’, DIZZY RAMBUNCTIOUS shows no boundaries to his talents, taking on a Simply Red’s Classic ‘Holding Back The Years’, through track, ‘Holding On’. What I love about this album is that it tells a clear story with minimal words…check it out…

New Track: Oh Jane – Otis Mensah

Following the release of mellow/melancholic track, ‘Day Dream’ back in December, OTIS MENSAH delivers another moody yet toe-curling piece, taken in shape of ‘Oh Jane.’

His collaboration with Berlin-based producer, The Intern definitely paid off as the two-and-a-half minute release oozes a hazy experimentation hip-hop and Jazz. Produced by Grit Multimedia, Otis Mensah and Raluca de Soleil,  the accompanied visual sees the Sheffield wordsmith poetically vents on the issue of depression, isolation, materialisation and love loss.

SOPHIE FAITH teamed up with producer Midnight Phunk for the first Song of the Day of the year – ‘Say So’ – their unique collaboration that’s set to grab the industry’s attention.

 ‘Say So’ acts as a cathartic vessel addressing regret for a previous relationship, with SOPHIE FAITH spilling her emotions throughout the song, metaphorically laying bare her truth.

Renowned for his work with singer Jamilah Barry on her outstanding single ‘Dance Moves’, Midnight Phunk is steadily building a reputation as one of the most gifted producers to emerge from an already bustling north London music scene.
