Song of the Day: Difficult – Lisa Conta

LISA CONTA has graced the cover of The Guardian’s Observer and the pages of British Vogue, Elle and Wonderland Magazine. She has mesmerized with her beauty and beyond her image, has remained somewhat of a mystery until now, as she is set to captivate the world with her voice via the release of her debut single.

Entitled ‘Difficult’, the track has the ambiance of grown and sexy R&B whilst being modernised by her enigmatic flair, with the help of producer JA1DA. Heightened by a rumbling bass, Lisa Conta finds her own voice and balances vulnerability with assertiveness as she contemplates the fine line between lust and a relationship. Assured in her ability not to fall in love with potential, the track zooms in on emotional highs and lows and whilst recognizing her desires, Lisa remains self-empowered and unwilling to settle for anything that doesn’t deliver or have depth.

A poetic balance of raw and honest emotion, ‘Difficult’ has an air of melancholy as chilly blues and sultry warmth are wound together in a relatable, remarkable record that sees her take ownership over her part in a relationship. The sincerity of the slow burning R&B track reveals a deep and strong character that exposes chinks of sensitivity and vulnerability – the human behind her image which has been viewed the world over.

Of Swedish-Gambian decent, Lisa resides in London and is signed to leading modelling agency ‘Storm Models’. Whilst initially dreaming of a career in pro-basketball, it has been her calling as a model and singer/songwriter that has determined her course. Surrounded by a musical family that includes her grandfather, ‘The Singing Prince’ of Gambia, and her own father Eddie Conta, it was inevitable that Lisa would too, someday, find her own voice.

Delivering shades of experience, and an exquisite musical palette, Lisa Conta shares her debut single ‘Difficult’ to the world…

Song of the Day: That’s On You! – Rei Ami

Released on Visionary Records/Sony Music Entertainment, Alt-pop singer and songwriter, REI AMI‘s standout new track ‘THAT’S ON YOU!’ shows off her range and versatility, opening up with a fierce yet playful rap verse before seamlessly transitioning into a soft captivating pop earworm.

The accompanying music video, directed by Kristen Jan Wong (Charli XCX, Nasty Cherry, Grace McKagan), portrays the fast rising musician as part of a bounty hunting duo who eventually seeks revenge on her partner in crime.

On the inspiration behind her new single, REI AMI shares, “THAT’S ON YOU!” is about recognizing your power again. It’s about being yourself to the fullest extent and if others don’t like it, then that’s their problem. I exist for myself and myself only. I refuse to dull myself down to make others comfortable. So if you don’t like me, baby that’s on you.”

Born in South Korea and raised in Maryland, REI AMI commanded herself into the spotlight in 2019 with the release of her three multi-faceted debut singles ‘Make It Mine’, ‘Dictator’ and ‘Snowcone’ the latter of which has since amassed over 15 million cumulative streams. Backed by co-signs from Billie Eilish, FINNEAS, and Zane Lowe, REI AMI continued to make waves with the eye-popping 2020 rap single ‘Mac & Cheese’, released via her new label Visionary Records, which led to a highly coveted spot walking in Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty runway show that same year.

Her name is a combination of two characters from the lauded anime series Sailor Moon; REI represents her softer, more delicate side and AMI showcases her braggadocious and aggressive “bad bitch” style. REI AMI best reflects the two polar sides of her personality, while also representing duality. For her, it’s not having to choose between this or that, but rather embracing both and then modeling that in her music.

“THAT’S ON YOU!” follows REI AMI’s first release of 2021, ‘Do It Right’ featuring rapper Aminé, and is the latest off her forthcoming mixtape due out this summer. Check out the official music video for the fierce single here…

Born and raised in Copenhagen, SOMEWON‘s latest single ‘Happy Together’, evolves around the struggle of letting someone go.

The turbulent alternation between the melodically light tones and the glitchy melancholic bass in his latest single could also sum up his upbringing when exploring music. From a childhood in classical choirs to spending his teenage years in the hip-hop community, Somewon – whose real name is Aleksander Demsitz – struggled to find his own identity musically.

After being a backing vocalist for the Danish hip-hop artist Mund De Carlo for several years and releasing a visual hip-hop-soul EP, Somewon has truly found himself in pop music.
