Hip-Hop Newcomer Supreme Releases New Single, ‘Thug Thizzle’ From Forthcoming EP

Carving his own lane in rap music as the son of a legendary emcee of arguably one of hip-hop’s most recognizable brands is no easy feat. But Staten Island native SUPREME is more than ready to take on the task, with a brand new EP Love Jones, set to release this summer. The project’s lead single, ‘Thug Thizzle’, a super smooth joint which anthems taking life’s ups and downs in your stride.

Speaking on the release, Supreme say: “‘Thug Thizzle’ is basically me saying ‘I’m going to be alright with whatever life throws at me. There was a time in college- around the end of my sophomore year at Morgan State -where I wanted to drop out. I felt regretful, like if I never went to college I would have already been progressing in my music career. The only reason I went to college was to be a role model to my younger sister, and to make my mother proud. I was the only one in my immediate family to go to college. When Nipsey Hussle was murdered, I gained a new perspective. It’s like it took for his passing to put me back in my place. That’s when I started writing ‘Love Jones’. I started merging music with school work, and I started getting A’s.”

Based on the importance of relationships with family and loved ones, the Love Jones EP takes an honest approach, addressing relationships with his mother, brother, and even his complicated relationship with his father (woven throughout the project are recordings of real phone conversations between Supreme and his father, Ghostface).

Album Review: Breaking All Th Rules – ThBenj

THBENJ‘s latest project, ‘Breaking All Th Rules’, which follows up from his 2019 debut album ‘T.H.B – the blog’s number one album of 2019 – and takes on a more sinister and darker route than its predecessor.

A downtempo bass runs along the airy (almost electronic backdrop), often accompanied by chant-like overtones are the main ingredients in the first half of the 19-track set, which somewhat has an air of melancholy. Further along the line, the downtempo grit is incorporated with smooth guitar plucks (in tracks ‘Y’ and ‘Thank You All’) which gives a fresher feel to the combo. The rich soulful undertones in ‘Just A Little More’ gives the album’s sparse theme a full dimensional urban feel, before leading out on a high with a tingling sensation from a melodic outro (Fkn Chill).

I’ve listened to tracks, ‘Y’, ‘Reasons’ and ‘Champagne’ prior to the release of this album, and nothing prepared me for what was coming. If you couldn’t tell from this review, I’m really digging this album and my hat comes off (once again) for this credible artist on-a-serious-rise. Check him out below

I M U R Share Single ‘Birdseye’, Out Today

The forthcoming project thematically touches on topics that everyone has experience with but that are often not discussed publicly, such as love, lust, loss, death, trauma and purpose.

Their offering takes inspiration from Lea’s near-death experience in a car accident and serves as a reminder that simply stepping back and taking a breath can be the difference between losing your mind and appreciating your day-to-day life.

Rising Star SVMI Drops Single, ‘P.O.P (Hold It Down)

Following the breakaway success of his viral hit song ‘Bait Lies’ that has amassed over three million plays and tracks under his belt like ‘Old Friends’ and ‘Timeout’ nearing a million plays, which have seen him garner strong support from BBC 1Xtra, Capital Xtra, GRM Daily, Link Up TV, Mixtape Madness and BBC Introducing, fast-rising Manchester artist SVMI circles back to unveil his latest single, ‘P.O.P (Hold It Down)’, having also just signed to Northern music and entertainment powerhouse NQ Records (Aitch, WhyJay).

Produced by LiTek (Rag’n’Bone Man, Bugzy Malone, Central Cee), ‘P.O.P (Hold It Down)’ is an infectious melodic rap track with smooth R&B leanings underpinned by a bouncy bassline and lush synths, over which SVMI showcases his catchy flow, rap skills, smmoth vocals that have made him one of the most exciting young prospects coming out of Manchester this year.

Sampling the viral Donna Goudeau ‘I’m legally blind’ meme, which also informed the title of the track, SVMI confesses that the inspiration for ‘P.O.P (Hold Me Down)’ comes from wanting to go on a spontaneous ‘baecation’ with someone new. The accompanying music video, directed by SVMI himself and Archie Erskine, brings the track further to life and captures a day in the life of a young creative enjoying the process and taking it all in his stride.

Fabian Secon Returns With Single, ‘Hey Girl’

Genre-bending artist, FABIAN SECON has returned with his brand-new single, ‘Hey Girl’, which taps into his love for pop-punk.

Speaking of his latest release, Fabian says, “I’ve always wanted to expand more into the punk/pop-punk world, as this comes very naturally to me. The melodies in my music have always been inspired by alternative, pop and rock music, so it was an obvious progression. A typical Fabian Secon track has generally been slower in tempo and chilled, so it feels great to be able to keep evolving and explore new sounds.”

Recounting the tails of a rollercoaster relationship, the self-written and produced track is another impressive addition to Fabian’s growing discography, which currently stands at a staggering 35 million streams globally across all platforms, a huge feat for the independent DIY musician.
