Ricardo Williams Delivers Single, ‘All I Need’, Featuring Yummy Bingham

After a phenomenal 2019, RICARDO WILLIAMS gives us the 3rd and final single from his critically acclaimed EP, ‘Intermission’ Vol 1 before and slew of new music and tour planned for 2020.

‘All I Need’ is a futuristic/cinematic take on R&B, which features the sensational vocals of R&B veteran Yummy Bingham.

Talking of the single, Ricardo  said: “I just wanted to create an EPIC love song. I grew up on big ballads and really wanted to bring back some of that energy but also throw some twists and turns in there. Giving you something different from me but still familiar.”

With continued support from Capital Xtra, BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra, Reprezent Radio, and more,
2019 was a big year for Williams, which witnessed the release of his debut EP and two sold out headline shows (London & Birmingham).

Song of the Day: Stawberry Cough – Church Friends (ft. Jordan Jetson)

Taken from their forthcoming album, ‘Deer Park’, CHURCH FRIENDS’ single, ‘Strawberry Cough’ showcases the funky soul side of this four piece Psych Rock/R&B hybrid act’s  kush rock sound, collaborating with hip-hop artist Jordan Jetson. Their first time working with a hip hop artist, Jetson has come out of the same Louisville hip hop scene that birthed national talents Jack Harlow and Bryson Tiller.

A familiar theme to many, ‘Strawberry Cough’ explores the emotional turbulence of being turned down by a partner you thought was into you. The band completed all elements of the tracking, mixing, mastering, and production in their own studio which they have spent the past two years building in the basement of the house they live in together. Mastered using a tape machine, this attempt at an old school sound harkens back to days of bands living together and making music to get through day to day life.

Since formation in 2015, the band has experience steady growth as their music spreads. Known for raucous house shows and quarterly ‘Saturday Services’, the band has been packing out small venues around the city of Louisville. Church Friends have also had the honor of opening up for two time Grammy winner Fantastic Negrito, as well as Kentucky legends Boa.

Song of the Day: Too Good – Asha Gold

ASHA GOLD‘s ‘Too Good’ is the product of a time in this young artist’s life when pressures were coming down on her to leave these creative pursuits for more so-called “practical” endeavours.

Following a heated debate, the 19-year-old West Londoner took to her bedroom where she recorded a voice note of the pre-chorus and chorus for ‘Too Good’. The next day, Asha finished up the song in around ten minutes on the piano; this being all the reassurance she needed to stay on track with her music career.

Reflecting on that time, Asha Gold says:

“Although deep down I knew I wanted to pursue music, it was impossible to trust myself because it felt like no one was trusting me. I battled with the pressures and opinions of those close to me who I respected, but in the end I had to pull the trigger and decide for myself.”

It’s understandable why Asha Gold faced this initial backlash, considering that she’s the first in her family to outwardly express these creatives ambitions, with no one on either her Mum’s English side or her Dad’s Indian side setting out the footsteps for her to follow in. That being said, even if you’re not battling with this same decision, Asha believes that…

“Too Good can resonate with people facing any sort of decision – it’s a positive song about backing yourself even when it feels like others don’t. I had to laugh at the situation in the end, and say “I’m too good to be having sleepless nights about this”, it’s going to work out.”

‘Too Good’ was completed with production from Dilush, whose vibrant style accentuates Asha Gold’s intuition for beat-led R&B, electronic and pop lines.
