K-Riz Shares New Video For Single, ‘What A Shame’

After claiming the blog’s Song of the Week title earlier this year for ‘What A Shame’, K-RIZ circles back and shares the video for the single, lifted from his The Room EP released in late 2020.

Directed by JDats, The Room’s producer and a frequent K-Riz collaborator, the video wades through the stages of a breakup, while visualising the heartfelt regret behind the track. Of the tune K-Riz says, “It’s about wanting to take responsibility for relationships breaking down. Rather than making a song about being a victim, I wanted to own my wrongs.”

Song of the Day: Black Gold – Timaj Garad

Ethiopian Toronto-based singer-songwriter and poet TIMAJ GARAD presents her single, ‘Black Gold’, the leading number from her forthcoming debut ‘Blooming at the Mouth’ EP, set for release tomorrow, 5th March.

‘Black Gold’ is an anthemic ode to and love song for Black Muslim women. Serving as both a celebration and a sanctuary, the single shares the realities of Timaj and many others in an honest way, without sugarcoating the collective trauma, while simultaneously providing space for Black Muslim joy and glory.

Song of the Day: Fade Away – Zoe Zobrist

ZOE ZOBRIST‘s single, ‘Fade Away’ is both an exercise in self-forgiveness and an acceptance of unresolved trauma.

“It’s about what it feels like to wade through childhood traumas and the emotional turmoil they cause,” LA-based singer/songwriter further explains of her latest. “But it’s also about finding your light again.”

Zobrist’s dusty vocals and stripped-back acoustic guitar guide the track with a raw intimacy that immediately envelops the listener into her thoughts in a way that feels like a peek inside her diary. In keeping with her 2020 singles, ‘Fire,’ ‘Who You Gonna Be,’ and ‘All My Friends Are Dead,’ “Fade Away” is another defiant, deliberate, and deeply personal addition to her fast-growing repertoire.

Andria Piperni Shares New Single, ‘Settle’

Possessing a hazy moody feel over her inimate soulful jazz trademark, singer/songwriter ANDRIA PIPERNI ponders in brand new single, ‘Settle’ whether if love is worth fighting for.

‘Settle’ sets the tone for Andria’s debut six-track EP ‘Who’s Counting?’, slated for release this spring. Produced and mixed by Chris Vincent (credits include Busty and the Bass, Macy Gray, George Clinton, Nora Toutain), the project underlines a theme of awakening that in many ways reflects the general mood of the past year, as we’ve been forced to face truths like never before.
