Goodboy Noah Drops Smooth Afterhours Joint, ‘Tie Down’

Gearing up for the release of his debut EP due out later this year, Southern California-based R&B singer and songwriter, GOODBOY NOAH, has delivered sultry new single ‘Tie Down’. The track co-written by noah alongside Dan Henig (ZAYN, Noah Cyrus, Chelsea Cutler) and Micah Gordon (Cautious Clay, Neon Trees) who also produced the track.

On the inspiration behind his new single, “tie down,” goodboy noah shares, “‘tie down’ is about finding someone that you think could be the one, not just a partner, but a partner in crime. I challenged myself to write a love song without using the word ‘love,’ and this is what came out. I brought the demo to Micah Gordon to produce it, and when he played the strings for the outro on his Nord keyboard I started freaking out because it was exactly how I thought the song was supposed to feel.”

Known for his juxtaposition of his smooth, melodic R&B sound and colorful personality, goodboy noah is a Toronto native — now based in Los Angeles — who is breaking into the R&B space with a fun flare. “My goal as an artist is to bring happiness to the world through my music and style,” says noah. “I want people to see that you don’t have to take yourself too seriously in this life, it’s heavy enough as it is, so I want to make things a little lighter.”

‘Tie Down’ was released yesterday on download and streaming sites. Have a listen to the smooth afterhours joint below…

Album Review: P.I.M.P (Poetry Is My Pleasure) – Lyrique

Newcomer LYRIQUE first came under my radar with 2020 neon trap joint, ‘Smoke Break’ – and he has firmly reminded there ever since. So when he released his debut full-length album, ‘PIMP’ late last year, I was very intrigued to give it a trial.

I expected the 12-track set to predominantly feature the mellowed-out vibes as featured in ‘Smoke Break’ – but ‘P.I.M.P’ offers a whole lot more as it encompasses array of sounds – from hazy vintage boom bap-inspired cuts, smooth afterhours samples (perhaps spanning from the late 80s/early 90s) to even swing hip-hop-esque tones (have a listen to ‘Casino Royal’) and uptempo 80’s-style/Pharrell Williams-esque soulful funk (Pimpin Wasn’t Easy) –  most of which were accompanied with soul-satisfying thumps of the bassline.

Arriving in Canada in 2014 from his native in the Philippines to work as a live-in nanny, Lyrique’s melodically chilled rhymes are a glimpse into his personal struggles as a temporary migrant worker. Now a permanent resident, Lyrique is now armed with uncompromised confidence and self-worth (have a listen to concluding track, ‘Dressing Room’).

So welcome to the world of Lyrique, a very creditable artist who’s patently striving to fulfil his ambitions as a musician. Check out P.I.M.P below:

Solo Artist Favourite Daugther Shares Catchy Yet Chaotic Single, ‘Long Distance’

‘Long Distance’, a racy indie pop debut single from, FAVOURITE DAUGHTER, reflects on trying to keep up appearances that everything’s fine, while running from the inevitable.

Its catchy, yet chaotic sound  really captures the sense of pushing down something until it inevitably overflows.

Speaking of the inspiration behind the release, the Canadian singer/songwriter says: “I wrote Long Distance on an unplugged, rented electric guitar during a blackout on a night off from an opera gig I was doing in Halifax in the summer of 2019, in tears after a frustrating phone call with my then-girlfriend. We were spending a four month stretch away from each other while I travelled for work. Neither of us were communicating well, and our daily check ins became monotonous. Both of us kept up the charade that we were good, while allowing fear and resentment to build up, which ended up costing us the relationship entirely.”

‘Long Distance’ is now available on download and streaming sites…check out the official video for the single below…

Tik Tok Sensation Lubalin Debuts New Single, ‘Long Txts’

LUBALIN has debuted his new single ‘Long Txts’, a smooth genre-bending hip-hop track – written and produced by the self-taught Montreal-based creator and artist – who writes, composes, produces, and records all of his own music.

On the release of his new single, ‘Long Txts,’ Lubalin shares: “Sometimes we try to simplify complicated things, and in the end, it only makes them more complicated. The song starts out clean and tidy, reflecting this desire to keep everything simple. But it won’t hold for long. By the time we reach the chorus, the song is erupting. The chorus is so eager to explode that it comes in a whole measure early.”

At the close of 2020, Lubalin skyrocketed to viral TikTok fame overnight thanks to his two original Internet Drama videos (here and here) that have amassed 53 million views, 12.8 million likes, and gained him 1.8 million followers on the platform in only a matter of weeks.

Stay tuned for much more to come from the multi-talented artist who is planning a series of new releases for 2021, including singles, EPs, and videos.

‘Long Txts’, is now available on all digital streaming platforms now via Cult Nation/The Orchard. Check it out below…

Marie Dahlstrom, Aligo and Dan Diggas Share New Single ‘Rising’

Following the their appearance on the blog last week with single, ‘Fall Down’, Danish singer and producer MARIE DAHLSTROM, London-based producer DAN DIGGAS and Canadian rapper ALIGO circle back for their new single ‘Rising’, the second track to be lifted from their upcoming collaborative EP ‘4inARow’, out January 15th via Marie’s JFH Records label.

‘Rising’ takes the trio’s hybrid of late night R&B and laid back hip-hop to new heights. Uniting Marie’s angelic voice with Aligo’s subtle verses – backed by a soothing instrumental from Dan Diggas – ‘Rising’ lyrically represents the beginnings of blossoming new relationship.

Speaking on the release of the new single, Aligo said: “Rising to me feels like the song you hear at the end of a good movie. It tells the second chapter of a love story after the initial spark: Honeymoons and bright flames. An ode to people in love, the lyrics definitely put you in that feel good space and remind the people that might not be in love at the moment, that there is something for everyone out there. It’s about when the moment comes and the temperature rises.”

Marie Dahlstrom went on to add: “Dan’s beat reminded me a bit of butterflies in the stomach when I’m love, and that’s what went on to inspire my lyrics for the track.”

Dan Diggas, Marie Dahlstrom and Aligo

Originally conceived as an idea to create a four-track EP in just 4 nights, ‘4inARow’ in essence was an experiment in writing, recording and producing purely on impulse. Each track was recorded between 8pm & midnight on those 4 days in January 2020; with each cut having its own story to tell. Dan Diggas provided the beats for the EP, with Marie Dahlstrom and Aligo sharing vocal responsibilities across the 4 tracks.

Speaking a little more on how the EP came together, Aligo said: “Marie and I lived in the JFH flat for a little over a year and after a few months we figured out a way for us to really tap in and make music together. We told ourselves every night for 4 straight days we are going to tackle a pack of beats that Dan made while he was on tour with Mahalia. Theme-wise there wasn’t a plan at first but we knew we wanted to explore different emotions and feelings with each night that passed. By the end we noticed the songs came together in a cohesive way that demonstrated a four stage cycle of love/relationships.”
