Named Sheffield’s first poet laureate in 2018, OTIS MENSAH steps back with the release of his latest single, ‘Troglodyte Jazz’. Produced by The Intern, ‘Troglodyte Jazz’ is an airy jazz infused lyrically playful track from the critically acclaimed wordsmith himself.
‘Troglodyte Jazz’ is part of the second season of #OtisMensahExists, a creative series blending together surrealist animation and introspective music.
Fast rising R&B singer and songwriter, JOYCE WRICE, joins forces with Freddie Gibbs in the official video for her new single ‘On One’, latest offering off her forthcoming debut album, ‘Overgrown.’ due out on next Friday (19th March) via Sony Music’s The Orchard.
On the release of her new single, “On One,” Joyce shares, “Working on ‘On One’ with Freddie was such an honor! I’ve been a fan of his for years so to have him on my album is crazy! When I first created the song with D’Mile and co-writer DC, I knew I needed a rapper on it. I grew up listening to Mariah Carey and loved how she had rappers on her records so I wanted to do the same for this album. I hit up Freddie on Twitter and I presented the record to him at his studio and he loved it. He wrote his verse so fast without even writing anything down and just glided through the song.”
Executive produced by three-time GRAMMY Award nominee and 2021 Golden Globe Award-nominated producer D’Mile (H.E.R., Victoria Monet, The Carters), Wrice’s 14-track Overgrown LP includes notable appearances by Lucky Daye, Masego, Freddie Gibbs, UMI, Kaytranada, Westside Gunn, and Devin Morrison.
Be sure to look out for her debut EP…but for now, check out the official video for ‘On One’….
After kicking off 2021 with a SoundCloud loosie ‘Strictly For My B’ and the hard hitting rap track ‘The 5 Year Plan’ featuring fellow 1000 Degreez member Wordz, both of which have quickly combined for nearly a million plays in two weeks, award-winning South African rap artist and producer A-REECE is going three-for-three with his infectious new hip-hop single titled ‘Morning Peace’. Along with dropping off his new soulful sing-along bop, the Mzansi rap star is also dropping his upcoming release of his long-awaited mixtape, ‘Today’s Tragedy, Tomorrow’s Memory,’ slated for release on March 26 in partnership with Platoon.
The latest track sees A-Reece taking off that braggadocios exterior that most rap music hide behind, as he offers listeners a refreshingly honest and open perspective on how he approaches conflict in relationships.
Speaking about the inspiration for ‘Morning Peace’, A-Reece says, “‘Morning Peace’ is about how you have your ups and downs in a relationship, and how you can get into a heated argument with your partner at any random time of the day, and it could be in the morning, when you both just woke up, so I speak on how I would rather wake up to making love to my partner, than arguing about something irrelevant. I would rather wake up feeling blessed than depressed – that was basically the whole concept behind ‘Morning Peace’, and as soon as I conceptualised that, I knew that Jay Jody was the perfect person to put on this, because him and I always have conversations about this type of stuff”.
Following his recent interview with NEW LEASE MUSIC, Atlanta-based hip-hop upriser, Ryan Lamar Alexander – aka 5TASH – circles right back with the video for his latest and – maybe greatest installment yet – titled ‘BIG 5TASH,’ the lead single off his debut EP ‘I, 5tash Banks’ released earlier this year.
The three-minute aminated production shows the GreenFolk emcee on a hard grind and also living the life of a young G!
