Song of the Day: Soul Ties – Carmen Marie

CARMEN MARIE is one of those genre defying singer/songwriters whose signature sound is uniquely their own. Hailing from Streatham, South East London, CARMEN MARIE has an emotive honesty and rawness the like of which is truly rare and certainly distinguishes her as an artist set to breakthrough in the UK and internationally.

Heavily drawing influence from RnB, Jazz and Neo Soul, Carmen’s vocals and unique curation of ‘melodic alternative slow jams’ give this ever-evolving singer a certain ambiguity, beyond that of a conventional artist.

After the success of her debut single ‘Hopeless’ in 2018, Carmen has racked up 70k+ combined streams to date. Having found herself on various Spotify playlists, the first single from her forthcoming EP ‘High Day,’ received much the same response. Her latest effort, the title track from the EP ‘Soul Ties’  deals with the depth and dangers of relationships tapping in, once again, to her uniquely personal melodic genius.

Zinnia Delivers Stunning Single ‘Requiem’ For Her Father

Frontwoman Rachael Cardiello – from five-piece pop art rock group ZINNIA –  spent most of her twenties processing her dad’s death, an experience which emotionally toughen her up.

She explains: “In some ways, I feel like I processed it so fully that I grew a thick callus around the part of the loss that was very raw and fragile. At times I’ve resented the tough skin which was necessary to get through that hard time.”

To mark the ten year anniversary of his death, the Toronto-based singer/songwriter wrote ‘Requiem’ on the plane ride home to Montana. Described as a significant milestone, the single also serves as the singer’s curiosity to see how her grief would change.

‘Requiem’ is taken from the group’s debut full-length, ‘Sensations in Two Dot’, set for release on 22nd November. The nine-track project focuses on moments of doubt and probes into the complex, unsettling similarities found in the human experience.

I was privilege enough to be one of the first to hear DEMOLA‘s collaborative track with Afrobeat sensation Davido at the launch party on Monday…and let me tell you, this banger will have your hips swinging in no time.

Meaning ‘big drum’ the self-produced, infectious slice of Afropop is packed to the rafters with instrumentation as DEMOLA’s violin solo sings, trumpets and horns blow, and the ‘Gbedu’ thuds like a heartbeat throughout, making the record a celebration of culture, dance and the very sound that has become synonymous with the sweet and catchy Afrobeats sounds that have become one of the worlds most loved.

With a snappy, smooth and uplifting delivery, DEMOLA sets the tone and pace for this insanely catchy record, which encompasses every traditional element of Afrobeats and mixes it with genuine originality. The addition of Afrobeats star Davido, who lays down the perfect verse for this number only lends to further accentuate the radiance of the record.

Song of the Day: Remember – LA Sabree (ft. Adonai)

‘Remember’ is LA SABREE’s attempt at a love song. Growing up, LA recalls most of his favorite hip-hop albums containing a romantic record or two specifically for female listeners to vibe to. During a listening session, his friend told him he was missing that exact type of song. Ever the perfectionist, Sabree vowed to make it happen.

Once he heard the beat by Producer GHXST, he sought out to bring the idea to fruition. However, he ended up creating something else entirely…

‘Remember’ is an anthem for men reminiscing about their old flames – and more importantly and specifically that woman it just didn’t work out with despite everything lining up like it would. In the record, LA SABREE recounts the vibes, moments and conversations he had with a girlfriend who professed her love for him. By the end all he has left are the pictures in his phone.

‘Remember’ is available on all major streaming platforms…check it out below..
