Showing no signs of slowing down and continuing to prove why she is worthy of all the attention since first bursting onto the scene with her 2014 mixtape ‘Once Upon A Grind’, UK hip-hop artist MS BANKS returns with her new track ‘Day Ones’.
Produced by Donae’O and ProducerWez, ‘Day Ones’ is the addictive, future hit set to extend the summer vibes with its infectious beats and MS BANKS’ inimitable flow. Launched with the must-see visuals shot in south London, the track is available to stream and download everywhere on Friday.
‘Day Ones’ is the follow-up to MS BANKS’ explosive tracks ‘’Get Loose’, ‘OMG’ and ‘Vibes’ which were released earlier this year and saw her causing a stir with her potent lyrical skills and unmatched, deadly delivery which she recently took to the stage with fiery performances at Glastonbury Festival, the Boy Better Know Takeover show at The O2.
With MS BANKS building on the hysteria she has caused over the past year and sharing more new music and electric live performances throughout the rest of 2017 and already garnering support from outlets such as Dazed, Noisey, Dummy, The FADER, The Source, BBC 1Xtra, SBTV, GRM Daily and Link UP TV, there’s no doubt that she is ready to take her crown as the queen of UK hip-hop.
HOLY ’57, the moniker of London-based artist Alex Mankoo, explores the joys and tensions in his cultural identity on the grooving single ‘Water / / Chrome’.
A gently glistening intro creates a disarming and dream-like atmosphere for HOLY ’57 to deliver his poetically sculpted personal lyrics. Punchy drums and a low bass set a funk-inflected rhythm that draws from contemporary hip-hop influences, whilst rounded guitars call to mind the bittersweet productions of Vampire Weekend and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. With Indian and Greek heritage, but having grown up in the UK, Alex explores the experience of struggling with one’s cultural identity, presenting its joys, conflicts and poignancies, as he feels “torn in two by the outcome of an avalanche”.

Canadian singer-songwriter JUSTINE GILES, stole today’s Song of the Day hotspot with single, ‘I’m Done’, which (in her words) ‘serves as an empowering anthem for all’.
Featuring heartfelt plucks of the acoustic guitar, ‘I’m Done’ was written in her hometown, Sudbury and came to life in Toronto.
Speaking of her single, Giles states. “It’s about saying goodbye and fully letting go of what no longer serves one’s health and happiness. It of course can be applied to a romantic relationship scenario, but the overall intention of the song far surpasses that, and I believe it can be applied to many situations. It may actually act as an anthem to stand up against multiple forms of abuse.”
Though this release greatly differs in style from her previous singles, it’s just as strong and impactful as it touches on the subject of standing up for yourself.
Have a listen to ‘I’m Done’…and if you like what you hear, look out for Justine’s new album later this year.
Multidisciplinary South-London artist DANIEL ALEXANDER unveiled his powerful new track ‘The Gulf’, on Monday via up and coming visionary French label Maison Ainsi.
The former member of a well-known band – signed to a credible UK independent label, who went on to release three albums and tour the world – DANIEL ALEXANDER’s current sound was developed from isolation and refusal. An internal refraction of collective dissonance, his solo journey saw his first effort, ‘Trains’ released on French producer and DJ Yuksek’s label Partyfine compilation ‘Partyfine – Vol.2’. Whilst his first standalone single, the double A-side ‘the moments u had but were never at’, was premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show and released on Acid Air Recordings, while ‘Chinooks’ was included on Killing Moon compilation ‘New Moons Vol. VI’. His recently released single ‘DOUBLEGLAZEDGAZEDOWN’, defined by Clash as “fascinating” was released on up and coming visionary French label Maison Ainsi on 23rd June.
With his live solo credentials already including a performance at Winter Camp Festival, DANIEL ALEXANDER’s interest in live visuals will lead to a series of solo performances where imagery and lyrics shift tectonically. Perfecting his craft with each new release, it is Daniel’s ability to consistently create emotionally charged, revelatory music that makes him a standout talent for 2017.
