Song of the Day: Stawberry Cough – Church Friends (ft. Jordan Jetson)

Taken from their forthcoming album, ‘Deer Park’, CHURCH FRIENDS’ single, ‘Strawberry Cough’ showcases the funky soul side of this four piece Psych Rock/R&B hybrid act’s  kush rock sound, collaborating with hip-hop artist Jordan Jetson. Their first time working with a hip hop artist, Jetson has come out of the same Louisville hip hop scene that birthed national talents Jack Harlow and Bryson Tiller.

A familiar theme to many, ‘Strawberry Cough’ explores the emotional turbulence of being turned down by a partner you thought was into you. The band completed all elements of the tracking, mixing, mastering, and production in their own studio which they have spent the past two years building in the basement of the house they live in together. Mastered using a tape machine, this attempt at an old school sound harkens back to days of bands living together and making music to get through day to day life.

Since formation in 2015, the band has experience steady growth as their music spreads. Known for raucous house shows and quarterly ‘Saturday Services’, the band has been packing out small venues around the city of Louisville. Church Friends have also had the honor of opening up for two time Grammy winner Fantastic Negrito, as well as Kentucky legends Boa.

Song of the Day: Alive – Yung Fume – Alive (ft. Chanal)

U.S loved Londoner YUNG FUME has partnered up with Chanal from much loved girl group M.O’s for single ‘aLive’.

The smooth ambient smash features the unmistakable tones of Yung Fume. His hazed out, emotive delivery topped with auto-tune is met with the sweet harmonies and soothing edge from Chanal as the pair create an honest and captivating drop, based on their own journey of emotion, reminding us that even on the darker days of life, we’re still ‘aLive’ and nobody is on their own.

Having become one of the UK’s frontrunners in conquering the U.S, Yung Fume has built an impressive profile to date. From reaching an exceptional homegrown audience and performing throughout the UK, the rumble of global exposure quickly developed following remixes of his record ‘Watch Me Flex’ by artists like Wizkid & Ty Dollas Sign. Leading to collaborations with top producer Zaytoven as well as Heavyweights Lil Durk & Young Nudy, Yung Fume has built a solid repertoire, releasing two projects this year including ‘Noughts & Crosses 4’, which saw him work with the likes of Young Adz, Lancey Foux, Fee Gonzales & Zinozee, & solo drop ‘The Other Way’.

Exposing true vulnerability and an insight in to the depths of Yung Fume, ‘aLive’ is an impressive version of the young star that both the UK and U.S are continuing to hail up.

Song of the Day: Hectic – Manu Crooks (ft. J Emz)

After racking up close to 500K streams in just over two weeks and support from the likes of Ebro at Beats 1, MANU CROOKS and J Emz drop the latest joint ‘Hectic’

Taking his sound international, Manu Crooks has earned his stripes in the UK and the U.S. He’s previously been highlighted by i-D, The Fader and Pigeons & Planes and had Australian tours with both Stormzy and Tory Lanez. He’s received major support with the likes of Charlie Sloth, DJ Target, Zane Lowe and Ebro. Meanwhile, J Emz and ONE FOUR have been spun into UK headlights throughout 2019 thanks to their live shows with Octavian and cosigns from UK music visionaries Skepta and Dave. Though both artists come from Western Sydney, the collab offers geninuine similarities to the roots and understanding of the UK trap world that it finds inspiration in. The reocrd sees two worlds merge into one: Polynesian crew ONEFOUR’s drill and UK trap inspired style – talking about their real life experiences in highly neglected areas of their neighbourhood, and African-Australian Manu Crooks’ internationally recognised sound and lyrics – swerving genres, styles, and trends and touching on broader aspects of his world and lifestyle.

This collaboration is deeper than the music itself. Bringing the two sub-genres together not only showcases the diversity of the music coming out of Western Sydney, but also the unity amongst the Australian urban scene.

Song of the Day: Ego – Uffie

Artist/producer UFFIE has collaborated with British visual artist Jam Sutton to create a sculptural augmented reality audio project, available via Jam Sutton Studio app. Uffie’s latest  single, ‘Ego’, soundtracks the AR and is available to stream on Spotify & Apple Music.

Known for his diverse body of work ranging from art, fashion (“This Is Not Clothing”), still and moving image (collaborations with Pharrell, Azealia Banks, Steve Aoki), museum exhibited artist Jam Sutton explores human form in the technological age. Harnessing the potential of digital techniques, Jam creates artwork that draws reference to classical ideologies and aesthetics of the past.

The collaboration between Uffie and Jam began as a sculptural art piece exploring Carl Jung’s theory of shadow, self, and ego. The project has resulted in the creation of a marble sculpture (available for limited sale), an audio soundtrack by Uffie (co-written with Ariel Pink), and an augmented reality app that brings the audio and visual together to explore the many layers of consciousness within the psyche. The resulting piece is a hypnotic experimental audio visual experience.
