Song of the Day: Closer – IIDimensionz

II DIMENSIONZ stolen today’s hotspot with debut single ‘Closer’ taken from their upcoming debut EP ‘Love From Above’ out this month.

Featuring special guest vocals from Mark Asari and rapper Nick Brewer (Island Records) ‘Closer’ is a smooth slice of soulful R&B with plenty of old school vibes including a big nod to Rosie Gaines classic ‘Closer than Close’.

Whilst inviting special guests in for vocals all song writing, instrumentation and production is done by the boys themselves, and they’re keen to keep control of all aspects of creativity, something they’ve learned from their dads – who were both in the music business.

II DIMENSIONZ are cousins Nathan and Jermaine Williams, born and raised in East London. Their dads played with the likes of Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Chaka Khan and LL Cool, so the boys were brought up with music in their blood. “We were taken to watch band rehearsals and gigs and sharing the excitement of watching our fathers perform live was a huge inspiration. It laid the foundations to our own musical journey.”

Debut 4-track EP ‘Love From Above’ is described by the duo as a modern-day take on classic 80’s soul with 90’s R&B. Alongside the single, ‘Closer’ the EP also includes the tracks ‘Waiting Room,’ ‘Coming Together’ and a deep house edit of ‘Closer.’

Check out the live performance of the single.

Song of the Day: Hero – Emil (ft. P Money)

Delivering an introspective insight into the male and female perspective of a relationship, EMIL  smashes into the Summer  with new single ‘Hero’, featuring P Money.

Describing her debut, as ‘being in the real world chasing a fairytale’ EMIL’s effortless vocals glide beside the trap- influenced beat as she tells the story of looking for a ‘Hero’, while P Money’s rapid verse portrays the male acumen of the situation.

Having built a name for herself among her peers and friends in the UK hip-hop scene over recent years, EMIL has been relentlessly grinding and has worked alongside some of the finest UK producers including The Heavytrackerz (credits including Stormzy, Skepta, Katy B) and The Forbes who produced ‘Hero’. After getting her first taste of the music industry back in 2015, alongside Joe Weller on the top 30 single ‘Wanna Do’, she then went on to collaborate with friend and grime star P Money on his ‘Money Over Everyone’ mixtape.

The multi-talented singer songwriter and model from Hackney, has drawn much inspiration from 90’s R&B pioneers like Lauryn Hill and Sade, which is conveyed through her own music and ability to create compelling stories through her lyrics. ‘Hero’ has picked up support from many online platforms including The Wav From, Complex, Yahoo Music, UMA, Urban Boss, Pardon My Blog, Luna Mag, Som Magazine and Underground Industry.

With a stellar performance at The Great Escape festival and a plethora of support already under her belt, EMIL is brewing up a fairytale storm that is due to spread worldwide.

Song of the Day: Call From U – Merged

Forward-thinking Welsh electronic artist MARGED cuts through the clamour with ‘Call From U’, her smooth return to the fold after adopting an updated moniker.

‘Call From U’ is a song exploring the very first sexual encounter with a new partner from a female gaze. Greeted by Rhodes- style chords, the track begins to carve out its sultry journey, offering an emotive layer of jazzy inflections to its already charming demeanour. The gently confident and rapturously seductive voice of MARGED then breaks through the dusty understated R&B atmosphere.

Having received praise from the likes of Idolator, Indie Shuffle and Clash with two previous singles as MRGD, the Cardiff born artist is re-emerging from her creative South London scene in 2017. Her new material takes influence from the honesty and emotional vulnerability present in the work of Sade and Princess Nokia, and as an active feminist, she uses her writing to challenge the notion of what it is to be a modern, empowered woman.

Here’s your chance to indulge into the world of MARGED.

New Music Video: Leave Me Be – Cherri V

Delivering an introspective insight into both her characteristics and personality, CHERRI V delves into a self-aware mindset in her new single ‘Leave Me Be’.

CHERRI V is at ease on the record as her voice explores her depth and soul as a songstress. Jazz elements fuse with psychedelic rifts giving the record a dreamlike warmth and enchantment. There is a rich tapestry of emotion and musical understanding that radiates from ‘Leave Me Be’, capturing frustration and the need to be free, an ongoing theme which is captured in both the music, and concept choices, behind her forthcoming album, ‘Brown Eyed Soul’.

Produced by Joey Stickz, CHERRI V has also enlisted the talents of Nolay for a spicy remix that is set to make its debut in the coming weeks.

The visuals for ‘Leave Me Be’ captures an intimate yet fierce side to CHERRI V as she sports an array of different looks within the video, ranging from the chic black and white opening to a more Afrocentric style, where she is draped in vibrant jewellery. Directed by Asylum 33, the video oozes a sense of liberation as Cherri is able to channel her creativity with an artistic direction to the video.
