Song of the Day: Roll Up – Mickey Factz x Blu x Nottz

West Coast indie Hip-Hop juggernaut BLU, Bronx rapper MICKEY FACTZ, and Grammy-nominated producer NOTTZ (of 9th Wonder’s Soul Council) have joined forces for EP, ‘The Narrative’, out now via SCHMTCS/Soulspazm.

‘Roll Up’, forms part of the six-track set, which finds Blu and Mickey trading bars about some of the turmoil the world has experienced in the past year and a half– not the least of which is the COVID-19 pandemic that continues to claim the lives of loved ones –over a haunting sonic backdrop laced by Nottz.

‘Roll Up’ is The Narrative EP’s third leak, following the singles ‘Stay Down’ and ‘Reign’. Check it out below…

Song of the Day: Checkmate – Meggz

MEGZZ‘s single, ‘Checkmate’ is a fun, sassy and empowering R&B pop anthem about moving on from a partner who is playing games in a relationship. The catchy and feel-good track promotes self-empowerment and realising one’s worth.

An independent artist from Northamptonshire, whose genre spans RnB, Pop and Neo-Soul, Megzz uses her talents to empower others, promote self-love and speak out about issues such as mental health. Her debut EP ‘Feel My Love’ (2019) explored these topics and introduced her distinctive sound; gaining support from BBC Introducing and notable magazines/blogs such as AnR Factory and Discover Nü. This support continued with her next single (Tell Me Why, 2020) and throughout the pandemic, where Megzz hosted and performed at virtual gigs to raise money for organisations such as Black Lives Matter, Womankind and Mind UK.

Now her latest single is sure to sure her on the radar…have a listen below…

Listen To Bethia’s Brand New Single, ‘Heartbreak On The Weekend’ Ft. NaMo

After gained over 28,000 followers on TikTok as well as recently playlisting on Spotify’s New Music Friday Denmark and Apple Music’s New In R&B, BETHIA returns with a smooth modern twist on a slow jam…

Inspired by the likes of Kehlani, Ella Mai and JVCK JAMES, ‘Heartbreak On A Weekend’ reflects a toxic cycle of continually being let down by that so-called significant other. The Mört-produced showcases the UK upcoming songstress’ sugar-coated voice blending seamlessly with featured artist NaMo’s vocals, creating the ultimate heartbreak anthem.

‘Heartbreak On The Weekend’ was released today (16th September) on download/streaming sites. Have a listen below…

Mixtape Review: Expat – Oloff

What I find so appeasing about Bristolian rapper OLOFF is that you can never guess his next move. His second project of the year, ‘Expat’ took me a bit by surprise as it contain pretty slick uses of samples, ranging from retro soul, right through rock/90s grunge plus samples that has a twang of 50s Hollywood Glamour – see, I told his guy was so delightfully unpredictable!

One thing that’s not predictable is his infamous askew delivery which at times ferociously pierces through some of the most delicate productions (listen to intro single ‘I Don’t Breathe’, ‘Obvious/Someone’s Missing/Luigi’s Mansion)

I appreciate that ‘Expat’ isn’t everyone’s cup of tea or a one size fits all type of mixtape, but it’s definitely worth a go just to hear the juxtaposition of his wayward delivery against the varied arrangements.

Must Listen: I Don’t Breathe, Lord’s Prayer, Luigi’s Mansion
