EP Review: The Blu Tape 4 – Dizzy Rambunctious

In the past, DIZZY RAMBUNCTIOUS has dropped a series of bluesy projects – and I have to say his latest EP, ‘The Blu Tape 4’ is the most diverse body of work that he has dished out.

A laid-back, Massive Attack -esque number along with an equally laid-back boombap-ish killer (featured in ‘No Interludes’) and an upbeat and idyllic EDM delight were added the urbanised soulful jazzy vibe, featured in the previous blue tape collections.

If you know of this New Jersey-based beatmaker, then you know he’s on a serious mission take a bluesy soulful combo to new heights…and if this is your first introduction of DIZZY RAMBUNCTIOUS, well this is the perfect opportunity to hop on the ride and sample his almost instrumental pieces below.

New Track: Sober – Marcel

Known as a ‘national treasure’ by the press, singer-songwriter, producer and DJ MARCEL
rose to fame with Blazin Squad in 2002 after they released a cover of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony track, ‘Crossroads’ which reached number one in the UK Singles Chart. MARCEL went on to secure seven top ten hits, including ‘Flip Reverse’ and ‘Love on the Line’, before securing himself as a finalist on the 2017 hit reality TV show Love Island.

Now, in between TV fame and media commitments, MARCEL is cementing himself as an innovative artist and recently released the afro-swing hit ‘They Wanna Know’, a well-received foray into his forthcoming EP ‘Circles’ due for release later this year.

Not afraid of incorporating his most personal experiences in his songwriting, his latest offering ‘Sober’ addresses the price of fame, highlighting the side to it that people don’t see; the lows, the pressure of the media and the unwanted attention.

New Track: Eggshells – Raylo

London hip-hop collective RAYLO are getting geared up to release not one but TWO epic music videos. Until then, the guys have dropped a brand new single entitled ‘Eggshells’, which displays their signature combo of mysteriously idyllic overtones and that boastful b-line.

New Track: Billie Jean – Kid Tana

If you’ve been keeping a close eye on fresh talent via GRM Daily and Link Up TV then KID TANA will certainly not passed you by. Making his debut just six months ago with the hard bodied track ‘Buju Banton’ he then dropped a visual for his Gear 1 freestyle. Now he returns with his banging second joint ‘Billie Jean’!

Taking on the title of the MJ classic, KID TANA hits complicated rap patterns whilst harmonising his colourful writing. Beginning to see a trend in his music, Tana applies several musical influences into one coherent vision that draws on dancehall, trap and afrobeat and hears him flit from the guttural to the sing-along in smooth transition.

Mixtape Review: Bixby Beach – Nayla Savannah

I’ve known NAYLA SAVANNAH since starting this blog and it wasn’t until a couple of months ago that this young rapper has resurfaced and dropped her trip-hop number ‘Dial’. I’m soooo glad that she’s still on the scene as I hate to see such talent go to waste.

Cementing her comeback to the scene, Nayla recently dropped her mixtape, ‘Bixby Beach’ which carries on the chilled out theme from her previous efforts, ‘Pretend’ (A MUST LISTEN) and ‘Cruisin’ – a theme that gives the mixtape a perfect introduction through the appropriately named ‘Welcome’.

There were times that a boisterous bassline makes its presence known in the ten piece set through tracks, ‘Forest’ and ‘Thank You’, adding some real satisfying meat to the featherly soundscapes.

Above all what pleases me the most about this mixtape is Nayla’s effortlessly blasé flow. Check her out below:
