Song of the Day: Real Escape (Disco Despair Remix) – Nicolaas

NICOLAAS’ single ‘Real Escape’ gets a refreshingly funky pop treatment by Electronic producer Disco Despair released via Haven Sounds.

The original song ‘Real Escape’ is seductively gritty/groovy, with a playful flair of the haute couture life. While Disco Despair’s rendition retains the masculinity of the original track, it has an added sensuality that almost feels like a dance between partners.

The single follows the release of his debut effort ‘No Stranger Thing’ with remixes by Louis La Roche and Pages with the later released via French music and fashion label Kitsuné. Under his new moniker NICOLAAS, Rob Bakker has already garnered support from Clash Magazine, Earmilk, Mr Revillz, New Retro Wave and Luigi Donatello.

Hunger ‘Light It Up’ With Brand New Single

Alternative pop-rock trio, HUNGER, have revealed their brand new single ‘Light It Up’ (via Born and Raised Records), the first release of a monthly release cycle leading up to their debut album Mosaik to be released on December 20, 2019.

Boasting a solid, driving instrumental serving as the foundation for the uplifting choir-esques vocal arrangements, ‘Light It Up’ is a rousing anthem exhibiting the fine chemistry the trio has established over the years.

Friends since childhood, Daniel Rumpel, Johannes Herbst and Lucas Fendrich grew up listening to punk-rock and pop in their hometown of Vienna, Austria. They formed HUNGER in early 2015, following the dissolution of their former bands, with the initial intention of establishing themselves as a songwriting trio. However, when they recorded their first songs in the studio, they realized that they were yearning to be played in front of a live audience. Standard song structures and melodies were disregarded in favour of the tone and evocation of the music, resulting in vast, dark, cinematic sounds and a moody blend of alt-rock and synth-pop.

To date, HUNGER has garnered global attention through their track ‘Amused’ being featured as part of the soundtrack to Netflix’s ’13 Reasons Why’, on several TV and online commercials, and amassing over 3 million Spotify plays. The band has amassed over one million views on Youtube as well as heavy rotation on Austria’s Hitradio Ö3, the New Music Friday Playlist on Spotify, and the Global Viral 50 Chart. Their extensive touring schedule has seen them perform at a string of festivals, including Out Of The Woods Festival with the likes of Alt-J, Phoenix, Feist, Sohn, Milky Chance, and The Strumbellas.

Her new music has been praised by key tastemakers such as V Magazine, PAPER, i-D, FLAUNT, and DAZED, and has led to headlining gigs at Elsewhere (NYC) and Moroccan Lounge (LA). EP Review: This Is For You – Monti

Reflecting on her experiences – from a turbulent childhood, living on the streets, to being in a codependent relationship, geared by drugs and alcohol, LA-based power-pop singer MONTI takes back control and power through her debut EP, ‘This Is For You.’

Introducing a slight misty bed of  soft indie electro pop soundscapes, the tempo picks up with third effort ‘Shadow’, which gives off a big band-ish feel to the electro/pop combo, before reverting back to those floating tones. The star of the show is, no doubt, MONTI‘s powerfully soulful vocals, which is not only pleasing to the ears, but also invites the listener into her world of past hardships, enabling them to feel the pain she went through.

Although it’s autobiographical, ‘This Is For You’ serves as a source of inspiration for anyone to overcome any adversity in life. If this talented newcomer can rise above her troubles, surely so can you.
