Song of the Day: Leïti Sene – T-Rex

Spain’s leading emerging artists in the rap scene LEÏTI SÈNE‘s sleek and poignant single ‘T-Rex’ explores his music journey so far.

Supported by Vogue, i-D, VICE, El Pais and more, Leïti has been bubbling up since 2017 – first garnering attention in his hometown Barcelona with his early music as trap duo SamxSen (with his cousin Sam Davies). Over the last five years, Leïti has truly ascended as an artist in his own right. Garnering global attention, he stands out from the crowd with his heady fusion of rap and hip-hop – performed in Catalan, Spanish and English and informed by his Senegalese roots – a sound that’s seen him shut down stages at esteemed festivals and venues including Primavera Sound, Loom Festival, Chacha Club, Razzmatazz and more. A multifaceted rising talent, Leïti is also an established actor, best known for his role in the hugely popular international Netflix series Elite, and a sought after style tastemaker (Napapjiri x NTS, Nike and more).

Passionate about creative collaborations, Leïti is also a key player in BCN’s burgeoning underground scene. With a discerning eye and ear for detail and his heart in his community, he founded CuteMobb – a leading collective of Spain’s brightest new-gen artists and creatives – and released the collective’s first album CuteTapes last year.

Album Review: Breaking All Th Rules – ThBenj

THBENJ‘s latest project, ‘Breaking All Th Rules’, which follows up from his 2019 debut album ‘T.H.B – the blog’s number one album of 2019 – and takes on a more sinister and darker route than its predecessor.

A downtempo bass runs along the airy (almost electronic backdrop), often accompanied by chant-like overtones are the main ingredients in the first half of the 19-track set, which somewhat has an air of melancholy. Further along the line, the downtempo grit is incorporated with smooth guitar plucks (in tracks ‘Y’ and ‘Thank You All’) which gives a fresher feel to the combo. The rich soulful undertones in ‘Just A Little More’ gives the album’s sparse theme a full dimensional urban feel, before leading out on a high with a tingling sensation from a melodic outro (Fkn Chill).

I’ve listened to tracks, ‘Y’, ‘Reasons’ and ‘Champagne’ prior to the release of this album, and nothing prepared me for what was coming. If you couldn’t tell from this review, I’m really digging this album and my hat comes off (once again) for this credible artist on-a-serious-rise. Check him out below

Song of the Day: Cruel – Jessica Wilde

The third single taken from Wilde’s debut album, out later this year, ‘Cruel’ signals her delving back into her first love, a toxic relationship that inspired a harnessing of her bisexual identity but also led her to addiction – a subject she’s tackling on her debut album.

Co-produced with producer Jay Nebular and Grammy award winning producer Kiris Houston who have worked heavily with the likes of The Disciples and Little Mix, ‘Cruel’ has a nice lazy summer haze 90’s classic hip-hop and R&B vibe where Jessica is at her most cutesy, sultry but equally dangerous as her lyrics offer a little sting in the tail. The official visual tracks Jess wandering South London, paying homage to a nostalgic look & flava, shot on disposable cameras and VHS, it gives an authentic feel, themed throughout the album. Rising Star SVMI Drops Single, ‘P.O.P (Hold It Down)

Following the breakaway success of his viral hit song ‘Bait Lies’ that has amassed over three million plays and tracks under his belt like ‘Old Friends’ and ‘Timeout’ nearing a million plays, which have seen him garner strong support from BBC 1Xtra, Capital Xtra, GRM Daily, Link Up TV, Mixtape Madness and BBC Introducing, fast-rising Manchester artist SVMI circles back to unveil his latest single, ‘P.O.P (Hold It Down)’, having also just signed to Northern music and entertainment powerhouse NQ Records (Aitch, WhyJay).

Produced by LiTek (Rag’n’Bone Man, Bugzy Malone, Central Cee), ‘P.O.P (Hold It Down)’ is an infectious melodic rap track with smooth R&B leanings underpinned by a bouncy bassline and lush synths, over which SVMI showcases his catchy flow, rap skills, smmoth vocals that have made him one of the most exciting young prospects coming out of Manchester this year.

Sampling the viral Donna Goudeau ‘I’m legally blind’ meme, which also informed the title of the track, SVMI confesses that the inspiration for ‘P.O.P (Hold Me Down)’ comes from wanting to go on a spontaneous ‘baecation’ with someone new. The accompanying music video, directed by SVMI himself and Archie Erskine, brings the track further to life and captures a day in the life of a young creative enjoying the process and taking it all in his stride.

Check out Toosii’s New Video For Track, ‘Red Die’

After celebrating the release of his new mixtape, ‘Thank You For Believing’, and his latest career milestone – surpassing one billion combined global streams across all of his songs – TOOSII is back with a new video, ‘Red Die’. Filled with friends, cash and cars, the clip’s joyful sense of comradery is balanced by Toosii’s memories of loved ones who have departed and the existential questions that haunt him – “Ask God ‘why me?’/Must be two sides to the story siamese.”

‘Red Die’ is the closing track from ‘Thank You For Believing’, which debuted in the top 25 of the Billboard 200. Other standout tracks include ‘What It Cost” and ‘Back Together,’ which appeared on XXL’s weekly list of “best new songs.”

Toosii has proven to be one of rap’s most relatable rising stars. While his career has been percolating in North Carolina for years, Toosii found staggering success in February 2020 on the strength of Platinum Heart. The album hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart and launched Toosii into the top 10 of Rolling Stone’s Breakthrough 25 chart. He quickly followed those achievements with Poetic Pain in September 2020. Toosii earned his first Gold record in January 2021 – for his top 10 Urban radio hit, ‘Love Cycle’. He is Audiomack’s latest #UpNow artist and Billboard named him as an artist to watch, noting, “Toosii is coming for the crown.”
